Gay British Soaps Update: September 10
Here’s a run down of British soap goings-on that have pinged our gaydar in the UK for the week ending September 9th, 2007. The big to-do was on Hollyoaks, which you'll find after the jump. Enjoy...
***SPOILERS BELOW, if you haven't watched last week's eps...***
Coronation Street, ITV1
Having discovered that she has a long lost son (whom she fathered when she was a man) transgender Hayley continues in her quest to track him down. With a push from pushy Becky, Hayley meets with a private investigator. Alas, he doesn’t look anything like Magnum, P.I. But he seems competent enough to do the job.

Elsewhere on the street, gay barman Sean and pretty heterosexual best mate Violet are all excited about becoming parents. But when they go to the hospital for Violet’s first scan, it’s not just the scan of his unborn baby that’s getting Sean all excited. Oh no! Sean’s smitten with a hunky sonographer called Marcus. And, much to Violet’s annoyance, Sean starts flirting with him! Tut tut Sean, we know you haven’t had any action for a while, but really, your timing’s a bit off! Still, after getting Marcus’s number, Sean’s hoping his dating drought could soon be about to end. At least now that they know the baby is healthy, the pair were finally able to share their good news with friends and family. Oh my. The Weatherfield gossips are going to have a field day with this one.
Eastenders, BBC1
Oh, what a surprise! There’s been nothing gay or happy about Walford this week. (Is there ever?) It’s about time the east end took a leaf out of Weatherfield’s book and hired a cheeky camp new barman to pull a few pints at the Queen Vic.
Saving that, we’ll just have to make do with feasting our eyes on the soon-to-make-his-debut Scott Maslen (aka Phil Hunter in The Bill) as Max’s brother, Jack.
Emmerdale, ITV1

Alas, there’s been no Paul and Jonny action in the dales to report on this week. The lovebirds are obviously still enjoying the honeymoon period following their engagement.
(For more on the soap's ongoing love quadrangle and the upcoming gay wedding, head on over here.)
Pity their happiness is set to be short-lived!
Hollyoaks, C4

The train wreck of a relationship that is Craig and Sarah seems to go from one extreme to the next. It seems the poor deluded Sarah and her not-so-perfect boyfriend are planning to escape Chester for a new life in … Dublin. But it’s not just a new life and a new city that’s getting the lass all hot under the collar. Oh no. It seems Sarah and Craig are going to get hitched! (Yes, to each other!) Not surprisingly, Craig doesn’t want his betrothed to mention the whole engagement thing to anyone. Of course, smitten Sarah reluctantly agrees to keep stum. Oh dear, Craig. How deep a hole do you really want to dig for yourself? It must be wonderful to have two adoring people competing for your attention and affection.
Meanwhile, John-Paul is beside himself when Hannah blames him for her eating disorder. It seems after he dumped her and came out as gay, heart-broken Hannah has never been the same since. And it seems Hannah isn’t the only one in Chester who feels he is responsible for her illness. The poor lad’s going to be even more distraught when he discovers that the love of his life is engaged and planning to do a runner.
And so, that concludes this little recap of all things gay related in British soaps. Tune in next time, to find out whether Hayley manages to track down her missing son, and what happens at Craig and Sarah's engagement party...
