It’s the moment we’ve all been waiting for; the moment we never thought would ever see the light of day. Yes, soap fans, Emmerdale’s loved up gay couple Paul Lambert (Mathew Bose) and Jonny Foster (Richard Grieve) have FINALLY done the deed and tied the knot! Not once but twice!
Of course, this being a gay soap wedding, the happy day was never going to go off without a hitch. With the bickering Blackstocks (that’s Paul’s proud parents, Rodney and Val) at loggerheads over the ceremony, Jonny and Paul decided to do a runner from their own wedding.
Have no fear though folks, the lovebirds simply decided to ditch being the star attraction at the Home Farm freak show in favour of a much simpler affair down at their local registry office.
But alas the newly married couple were far too chicken to break the news to either of their parents - not that anyone can blame them! So they decided to go ahead and get married again, this time in front of their family and friends, complete with Jonny’s best man Barry as a pretend registrar!
Despite being Emmerdale’s first gay wedding (sorry, civil partnership!) Paul and Jonny’s marriage was altogether something of a lacklustre affair. In fact, at times it felt like watching a Carry On film; I half expected to hear Kenneth Williams’s unmistakable laugh or one of Sid James’s classic filthy cackles! But at least Paul and Jonny got their happy ending. For now.
Highs: Paul and Jonny looking oh-so handsome in their snappy suits; and Jonny’s mum Patricia dolled up like a dog’s dinner – complete with a fashion accessory pooch tucked under her arm!
Lows: Bev the blubbering lesbian; Val’s tacky ice sculptures; and zero smooching between the lovebirds. Instead we had to make do with a brief peck on the cheek and a manly hug! What’s up with that?!

Yes it was a lacklustre
Yes it was a lacklustre affair...when there has been a wedding in the past in Emmerdale, it is usually an hour-long episode. Also the lack of kissing. Before I definately thought something was up behind the scenes...and then they kissed when Jonny proposed, so my suspicions disappeared. But now they're back again. Even on Coronation Street Sean and his boyfriend do not properly kiss. The last time there was a gay kiss on Corrie was about a year or so ago when Sean kissed Sonny. And even that didn't seem quite right.
So I've definately got the feeling that ITV, the channel which shows both Coronation Street and Emmerdale are maybe giving into pressure groups just like Proctor&Gamble are doing with As the World Turns. Their way of thinking I assume, is that we will include gay people in our shows, because it is part of real life and to keep the gay pressure groups at bay, however the main problem is that physical displays of affection leads to the complaints, so therefore we'll keep that down to a minimum. Which is of course bullshit because it does not follow real life and also they are still discriminating against us because straight couples kiss all the time. And I am really surprised that ITV is thinking like this, considering that it's the UK and we've been showing gay kissing and even gay sex on our screens without there being major uproar for 2 decades now at least. The mind boggles at the last vestiges of homophobia in the UK. Actually it's quite hilarious thinking about it now, it's becoming like a farce.
Someon in the UK
Will someone in the UK please post this to YouTube so that us yanks can get a look?
Cheers

Well how come I've only seen
I asked Mathew to comment on
I asked Mathew to comment on this and he said this: 'Richard and I tried to think back to give an idea of how many times there has been a mouth to mouth kiss. We think about four so far. I guess we are on 6/5 times a week so it's easy to miss. There has been no directive from the producers regarding the kissing but in truth there hasnt been a chance recently! There are fifty plus charaters so we're not on scene every minute and Paul and Jonny have been a perpetual state of conflict recently! ALso the directors vary so much it is possible that the kiss doesnt make their cut and that is harder to police. I will ask to see if there is a directive as we have a new producer. As for the wedding. I think the hug was sweeter than a kiss at that exact moment and says more about the hopeful resolution of their difficulties.'
Hmm, well I still get the
Bull!
No gay snog between paul and jonny, but it was fine when we had wooden kisses between paul and grayson. ugh! pathetic.
