Sexiest Soap Studs on British TV: Part 1

From Days of Our Lives to One Life to Live to All My Children, US soaps have always featured an abundance of hunky and handsome characters. US audiences are currently drooling over the blossoming relationship between the oh-so-gorgeous Luke Snyder (Van Hansis) and Noah Mayer (Jake Silbermann) in As the World Turns. But across the pond, UK soaps have had their fair share of sexy studs too.

So, why not take a break from Nuke (a very brief one, as we'll be liveblogging today's Big Event in just a few hours!) and check out part one of our countdown of the ten sexiest soap studs currently brightening up UK TV screens. Oh, and just in case you were wondering why Hollyoaks is nowhere to be seen, well, since the show got its very own little list, Hollyoaks: The Dishy Dozen, we thought it was about time we put the likes of Emmerdale, Coronation Street and Eastenders under the spotlight. After all, Hollyoaks isn't the only soap on British television, you know!

Kelvin Fletcher

Kelvin has been playing Andy Sugden in Emmerdale since 1996. He’s also appeared in Cracker and Heartbeat. Kelvin would eventually like to move into films, and he harbours aspirations to be a rally driver. He was nominated in the Sexiest Male category at this year’s UK Soap Awards.

Matthew Bose

Before finding fame as Paul Lambert on Emmerdale, 34-year-old Matthew appeared in shows like Coupling, Cutting It and Silent Witness. A former model, Matthew is actually half-Indian. Which is obviously where he gets his exotic good looks! He shares a home in London with his partner James, a television director.

Matthew Wolfenden

Matthew plays David Metcalf in Emmerdale. Skilled in ballet, jazz and contemporary dance, 26-year-old Matthew has appeared in musicals like Saturday Night Fever and Romeo and Juliet. He played a stripper in Hollyoaks and demonstrated his vocal talents on Soap Star Superstar. Oh, and he can juggle and stilt-walk, too!

Rob James Collier

Rob has been a hit as Coronation Street’s lovable rogue Liam Connor from the moment his feet touched the cobbled street. He won the award for Sexiest Male at this year’s UK Soap Awards. His other TV credits include New Street Law and Down to Earth.

Richard Grieve

Aussie Richard is one half of Emmerdale’s sexy gay couple. But long before foxy farrier Jonny Foster, he found fame in 1994 as Neighbours’ Sam Kratz. Two years later, he quit to join rival soap Home and Away. Luckily for us, he's left behind Australia for the Yorkshire Dales.

Rupert Hill

Rupert joined Coronation Street to play Jamie Baldwin back in 2004. Prior to that, he had an on-going role as Cameron Davenport in Family Affairs. A talented musician, Rupert used to play guitar in a band called Shepherd’s Pie.

Robert Kazinsky

As Sean Slater in Eastenders, Robert is one of those sexy bad boys we all love to hate. Before venturing to the East End, 23-year-old Robert starred in Sky One’s football drama, Dream Team. The Jewish actor can speak Hebrew, and has starred in a number of Israeli television commercials.

Ryan Thomas

As Coronation Street’s Jason Grimshaw, 23-year-old Ryan has been acting in the soap since 2001. And he has been dating his on-screen girlfriend, Tina O’Brien (Sarah Platt) for what seems like forever. But we forgive him!

Matt Di Angelo

Matt was apparently working in a shoe shop when he heard that he had got the part of Deano Wicks on Eastenders. The 20-year-old former model has recently signed up to strut his stuff on the BBC’s Strictly Come Dancing. And judging for the promotional photos, he looks decidedly dashing in his dancing clobber!

Scott Maslen

We all know and love him as The Bill’s dishy DS Phil Hunter, but Scott has quit being a copper to play the part of Jack Branning in Eastenders. Roll on November! We can’t wait! A former Royal Marine, in his younger days, Scott had a very successful career as an international model, after he was spotted by photographer Bruce Weber.

So, that concludes our countdown of the hottest, fittest guys currently strutting their stuff on British soaps. Look out for part two, which will count down UK television’s top ten Sexiest Soap Studs of the past…

*cough* Where is dear Bruno

*cough* Where is dear Bruno Langley who played the first gay character in Coronation Street? Blasphemy!

Oh and Rob James-Collier played gay in New Street Law by the way. There was no kissing or anything, but his relationship with one of the main characters was portrayed in a very non-stereotypical way. They had relationship problems like any straight couple, they argued...one fight came to blows (I mean most men, straight mainly, let their fists do the talking so this was very realistic and plausible for a male/male relationship) and unfortunately this fight ended very badly (I don't want to spoil it). But in the end it was made overtly explicit that they were very much in love with each other despite what had happened.

Oh, I haven't forgotten dear Mr. Langley. As if I could lol. This was a list of the sexiest soap studs currently brightening up UK TV screens. Bruno aka Todd features in part 2, which focuses on the sexiest soap studs of the past.

Didn't realize Rob Collier played a gay character in New Street Law. Mind you, I didn't really watch it much.

He was only in a couple of episodes...but his character was mentioned quite frequently many episodes before he actually showed his face on the screen lol.

Ah, ou contraire Fallen Angel, Todd is returning to Corrie didn't you know? ;) So technically next week Bruno will be currently on our screens... (Yeah I know, I'm clutching at straws here hehe).

Todd returning to Coro (SPOILERS)

Actually, you're right. I have heard rumours of Todd returning to attend the wedding. I did actually come across a few photos that were taken during a Coro shoot in Manchester and it shows Bruno with Ryan (Jason) and Antony (Sean).

POSSIBLE SPOILERS...

Rumour has it that Todd gets invited to the wedding and he's thrilled. However, he doesn't realise it's actually that nasty David Platt who has invited him. Jason is thrilled to see him but Sarah not so! I've heard Bruno is back for a run of 13 episodes. And I believe he'll be back on our screens from Oct 15.

So, I don't think it's a case of clutching at straws, Jason!
