UK's second annual Stonewall Awards: November 1
Stonewall’s second annual awards ceremony takes place at London’s Victoria and Albert Museum on November 1, 2007.
Nominees include actor and TV presenter Antony Cotton, Canadian singer-songwriter Rufus Wainwright and lesbian rapper Mz Fontaine for Entertainer of the Year; Hollyoaks and Doctor Who for Broadcast/Broadcaster of the Year; and Russell T Davies and Scottish author Val McDermid for Writer of the Year. Former premiership footballer Graeme Le Saux, an activist for gay rights in football, is nominated in the Sportsperson of the Year category. Winners from six categories will be chosen by a panel of judges, which includes Matt Lucas, Clare Balding, Nicky Campbell and Paul Gambaccini.
Stonewall, which was founded in 1989, is renowned for its campaigning and lobbying. Last year’s awards ceremony was hosted by one of the organization's most high-profile founders, stage and screen actor Sir Ian McKellen. Submitted by on Wed, 2007-10-31 11:04. |

Thanks for the heads-up on the Stonewall Awards. I just saw Rufus Wainwright last night in concert at the Hammersmith Apollo, and he certainly gets my vote for hardest working man in show business. After three hours of near-straight (you know what I mean) performing, he yet managed to show up in Judy Garland "Get Happy" drag for an encore. Never mind that he looked more like Ville Valo than Liza's mum; it's the thought that counts. And just who is Brandon Flowers, pray tell?

James Sutton isn't up for a Stonewall award - not according to the official website, anyway. I think he should of been nominated in the Hero of the Year category - or at least Hollyoaks or Brian Kirkland.
James was up for a NTA last night. Typical though, he didn't get it.

All right, nobody probably cares, but I now know who Brandon Flowers is--sort of--and I know that Rufus Wainwright wrote a love song to him called "Tulsa" that is on his new album, which I've just bought. The interesting thing to me is that I'm from Tulsa originally, a town that's officially no further than 24 hours away from wherever you happen to be (just ask Gene Pitney) and that is home to many musical greats, including that singing rage, Miss Patti Page, David Gates (Brandon, Rufus is a want you), and Leon Russell, who had longer and blonder hair than Madonna, "long ago and oh so far away."
