Shear Genius: Here Comes the BrideThis week's episode starts off with Jaclyn Mail. It says, "Counting on being a Shear Genius?" Along with the brief note, they also get a ledger. They head off to the spot marked on the map and find a mall. For reasons I can't fathom, Ben thought it would be a good idea to dress up like a ninja today. Jaclyn clearly thinks he's lost his mind. She may be right. Insanity seems to be catching on this show. Evangelin has infected all of them.
The guest judge today is Jose Eber. I've heard of him too. Two weeks in a row I've heard of the guest judges. I'm so gay. Short Cut Challenge: They will have to find mall shoppers to agree to let them cut their hair. How much they charge will be up to the stylists to decide. They will have to keep track of all their sales, and the team that earns the most money in two hours will win. Oh yeah, they are teamed up. Because Tyson won the last challenge, he gets to pick his teammate first, and then decide who will work with whom. He picks Tabatha as his partner (I groan out loud... poor Tabatha.), and then teams Boogie and Ben, and Anthony and Daisy. The teams get to work. It's not an easy challenge. Even with the cameras following you around, it's weird to just go up to someone ask if you can cut their hair. Ben and Boogie are going for cheap $5-10 cuts, Daisy and Anthony are kind of mid-priced with $20-30 cuts, and Tabatha and Tyson have decided they're too good for this and are demanded $60-70 per cut. Needless to say, they aren't getting many takers. Tyson is also scary. He makes me uncomfortable.
In the end, Anthony and Daisy make $360, Boogie and Ben earn $225, and Tabatha and Tyson pull in $790! The high prices paid off. They did fewer clients than the other two teams, but the made more than twice as much as both of them combined. Elimination Challenge: Some random guy delivers a wedding cake to the loft and everyone immediately knows it's a wedding challenge. The bad news is they still have to work in teams. That means a double elimination. I'm nervous, y'all. The actual challenge is to style a bride, her mother, and her maid-of-honor in two hours. The styles have to be complimentary to each other and they dresses.
Boogie takes the lead in his team, Daisy in hers, and Tyson takes the lead in his. That last one was a huge mistake on Tabatha's part. She is focusing on the bride while Tyson does the mother and the maid-of-honor pretty much unsupervised. This will not end well. Meanwhile, Daisy and Anthony are working together quite nicely. They are making sure their skills are used to the best of their abilities. Anthony clearly is taking a backseat to Daisy, but her strengths lie in this area so that makes sense. They are being very mature and civil about it. Boogie, on the other hand, admits he made Ben his bitch. He's bossing Ben around like it's Ben's first day working at Boogie's salon. It's kind of ugly.
As I feared, Tyson manages to mess up the updo he was doing for the maid-of-honor. Tabatha tries to fix it, but they don't have enough time. Will the Wall of Fame/Kiss of Death strike again and take out my beloved Tabatha along with Tyson? Guest Judges: That's right: judges. There are two of them this week. Jose Eber is back, and joining him on a five person panel (Sally and Michael are both there as well) is wedding and party planner to the stars, Mindy Weiss. She's had some bad work done, folks. Hair Show: Tabatha's bride looks okay, but it's not her best work. Tyson's mother and maid-of-honor look a hot mess. Tabatha is freaking out. I am too.

Daisy's Bride Boogie and Ben... not as impressive. I actually have to say their looks are my least favorite. They all look a little ghetto. Boogie did all the work so he gets all the blame.
Critiques: Tabatha shoots herself in the foot from the get-go by criticizing Tyson's work, then admitting she can't stand him. It's very unprofessional. The bridal party admits they could tell the two of them didn't get along. Plus, their looks are not cohesive. The judges gush over Daisy and Anthony. They're going to win. 'Nuff said. Boogie talks too much and says very little. He should meet Tyra Banks. Oh wait, he already has. I think I read in his bio that he's been on her show. That explains a lot. The bride wanted her hair down, but Boogie overruled her and gave her an updo. That will not go over well, but I think Tabatha and Tyson's animosity will trump his faux pas. Winner: Daisy and Anthony win hands down. There was really no other choice.
The Cut: As I feared, Tabatha and Tyson are going home. I can't even be that upset. They did poor work, didn't work together at all, and Tabatha acted very unprofessionally in front of the judges. They deserved to go home. I do think if Tabatha had gotten a different teammate, she'd still be there. She was one of the best stylists on the show. However, she let her personal feelings for Tyson get in the way. It's a shame. Boogie and Ben are clearly the weakest stylists left and should have gone home before Tabatha, but that's the way the hairdo crumbles. The curse of the Wall of Fame struck again. Next week, I believe it's the finale if I heard correctly. My previews cut off midway through. The stylists are working with a celebrity photographer. It looks like Boogie messes up big time. We'll have to wait and see. I'm rooting for Anthony now! Submitted by on Thu, 2007-05-17 15:14. |

Shear Upset
I was annoyed by Dr. Boogie's behavior and attitude on this week's episode. He doesn't have a grip on reality. He believes that he is better than everyone in the competition and he's not. He obviously has social skills and experience with hair cuts. Somehow he was amble to impose himself on Ben (and the others to a lesser extent).
Anthony and Daisy got along to the surprise of Anthony. I think Anthony can get along with anyone, he seems like a carefree guy. He kept her stable this week, normally she's having meltdowns.
Tabatha was obsessed with Tyson. I think she had a crush on him and that's the reason why she kept going after him. Besides being disturbed there really is no other reason for her dislike of Tyson. Her career is not linked with his. People are not going to look at Tyson's work and then blame or praise Tabatha. Somehow she linked Tyson and his work with herself. I think the judges made the mistake of cutting them even though they were the worst team this week in the elimination challenge. Looking at their work compared to Ben's and Dr. Boogie's there is no question which team should have gone home.
