Alan Cumming helps re-invent Oz in the Sci-Fi Channel's Tin Man

Just as the broadcast networks are heading into winter reruns, the Sci-Fi Channel usually airs interesting mini-series. This year, the network is re-imagining The Wizard of Oz with Tin Man.

Tin Man sees "DG" (Zooey Deschanel) transported to The Outer Zone (O.Z.), a former land of wonder turned into a land of repression of fear by a sorceress, Azkedelia (Kathleen Robertson from IFC's The Business). DG is a modern Dorthy Gale — she's older and more action oriented than the original Dorothy — and DG's companions offer new takes on the Tin Man, the Cowardly Lion and The Scarecrow.

Alan Cumming will be playing Glitch, a former genius who invented some of the greatest devices of the OZ. His brilliance his gone, however, since Azkedelia had his brain taken away. Getting his brain back will require a trip to the Central City and overthrowing Azkedelia's rule of terror.

Check out Cumming as Glitch. I'm a little creeped out by the zipper on his head, but I guess that's the point:

Here's the extended trailer for Tin Man, this one looks like it could be fun to watch some wild ideas thrown out there:

Here's Glitch and DG:

Raw (Raoul Trujillo) is a half-man/half-beast who suffers from shattered nerves due to his empathic abilities. Cain (Neal McDonough) is an ex-cop who was imprisoned in a tin suit where he was forced to watch his wife and children being taken by Azkadelia's soldiers again and again.

Kathleen Roberton (on the far right) looks pretty fierce as Azkadelia:

    I'm There

Even the short trailers they've been showing on SciFi intrigued me enough to want to watch Tin Man, but now I'm looking forward to it.

    Um...?

Looks really bizarre, but I love Zooey Deschanel so I'll probably watch it.
