Is Bravo's Next Reality Show About 'Girls Who Like Boys Who Like Boys'?

Gay gossip monger Michael Musto is reporting that Bravo has a new reality show in the works, one about gay men and their straight female friends. It's based on the book Girls Who Like Boys Who Like Boys, which was a collection of essays about the relationships between gay men and straight women (which included an essay from Musto himself).

There are no details yet about what kind of show this will be, but a bit of Googling reveals that one of the book's contributors, Karen Robinovitz, filmed a reality pilot for Bravo. However, further Googling reveals that show was a "reality version of Sex in the City" so that's probably a different pilot. Since so little is known so far, I thought it might be fun to speculate on the different ways such a show could turn out. Let's take it genre-by-genre:

The Reality Competition Show: As the show starts, a gay man and a straight woman are paired together Beauty and the Geek style. Unlike Beauty and the Geek, challenges aren't about what they can learn from each other. Instead, challenges are about all the stereotypes gay guys and straight women are supposedly great at such as finding the perfect dress for a night out, planning parties and fine-tuning gaydar. At the end of each episode, the eliminated duo talks about how much they've learned from each other. She talks about how she's learned how friendships with a gay man has more to offer than fashion and relationship advice while he reveals how he sees women as more than company for ogling guys and trashy TV.

The How-To Show: Each week, a gay man/straight woman friendship is profiled... and then their personal challenges are compared to a similar friendship out of pop culture -- do they drink too much like Jack and Karen? spend too much time at the office without getting work done like Marc and Amanda? After the diagnosis, they are taken to experts who give them advice on kicking their bad habits.

The Game Show: Camptastic classic TV producer Chuck Barris's last show was Three's a Crowd, which took Newlywed Game-style quizzes but this time included teams of three -- a man, his wife and his secretary -- asking which woman knew the guy better. From the moment I heard about it, I thought one way to give it a modern update would be to ask if a woman's husband or her gay pal knew her better. It would make sense as a Newlywed Game for the "Bravo-watching houseplants" out there. Barris claimed Three's A Crowd got him to quit television, partly due to criticism of the show but also because he could see how marriages were falling apart on the show... somehow, I suspect there's a producer who created reality shows for Fox who would have no problem with that.

The Docu-Soap: In all likelihood, this will be what we see, basically "The Real Wills and Graces of New York City". Sadly, much like with the Real Housewives, I expect such a show will have us wishing for less representation on TV.

What do you think? Anybody read Girls Who Like Boys Who Like Girls? What would it take to do the book justice? What kind of reality show do you expect with that theme?

Diane Von Furstenberg should run it

Outside of that it should be "Gay Jeopardy" with the added spice of being a competion betwenb Fag and Hag for the Grand Prize.
