Common pledges to stop using anti-gay slurs

Hip-hop artist Common has declared that he won't be using anti-gay slurs in his lyrics anymore. The performer, who has got a busy year ahead of him, said that he listened to gay fans who challenged how his songs dealt with homosexuality, noting "I thought about it. I ain't here to judge 'em, so I just decided not to approach it like that."

Common's music is known for being topical and socially conscious, including a recent single "The People" that referenced Barack Obama. He previously took the n-word out of songs in his latest album, after talking with Oprah Winfrey and apologizing for his use of the slur.

    I hope Common's stand causes

I hope Common's stand causes more artists in the hip hop & rap communities to understand the painful affect of homophobic lyrics & to take a similar stand.

    Since I haven't heard enough

Since I haven't heard enough of Common's songs I never knew he used anti-gay slurs. I always thought he was above it. Nevertheless this a step in a positive direction and one I hope many more artists from all genres follow.
