This week's "The Game" to feature a gay football player and "outing" storyline

I haven't watched The CW's football sitcom The Game since it premiered. I was disappointed when the show wasn't "Footballers' Wive$: the sitcom" and failed to capture the charm of Girlfriends (The Game is a spin-off of Girlfriends and comes from the same creator).

But now that we've learned that this week's episode features a gay story, perhaps it's time I gave this show another chance.

More details, after the jump!

In "Stay Fierce, Malik" Robin Givens (who has a recurring role on the show playing a fictionalized version of herself ... okay, I really do need to give this show another chance) drops hints in an interview that the reason she and Malik (Hosea Chanchez) broke up is because Malik is gay. That earns Malik some locker room teasing from his teammates, but Malik eventually realizes that one of his teammates, Clay (guest star Marcello Thedford), is gay.

Clay is a new character, as far as I can tell, so there's no chance to look back at old episodes and see if there were any hints to this revelation. We'll be checking out the episode to see how the sitcom deals with such a controversial subject as gays in pro sports; has anyone out there seen much of the show? Any ideas whether it might be something for which we should get our hopes up?

You can check out a quick preview of the episode over at the show's website. And thanks to Roni for the tip!
