Daihatsu tries to draw gay customers with beefcake
Car maker Daihatsu has a site aimed at gay German customers that certainly makes for a fun diversion. From what I can figure out via Google's German-to-English translator, the site has a "be yourself" message — which, apparently, will attract a hot guy dressed as a cowboy, airman or baseball player to your car. The fun part of the site comes in the "Itr Trevis-Typ" section where you can get the cowboy, pilot and baseball player to do a little dance, give you a steamy glance close up or... uhm, strike a pose? I'm not sure how this is supposed to make me want to buy a certain car, but I'm not complaining.
I do think AfterElton.com could use a loading animation like this site's shirtless, dancing cowboy. I wouldn't mind watching him as I wait for comments to load.
That just may be the greatest loading animation ever. Check it out for yourself. Submitted by on Thu, 2007-09-06 16:11. |

Trevis Sells
I like this a lot. I like it when a company gets it right when marketing to gay people. I feel very welcome. Companies know that gay consumers are very loyal. They also know gay people are trendsetters. If their cars catch on with gay people then eventually the cars will catch on with the rest of the population. That is what they are counting on.
Trevis sells these cars. The cowboy look is my favorite.
Attack of the Clones
I think this would appeal to str8 women, too. I can't read the text, so it's tough to really understand fully. But who cares, right? :)
My only beef is that there is only one guy! Why couldn't they address variety? Why not have a bear, a twink, and a muscle head? Each is hot/ cute in their own way, and would appeal to more types of folks (I would hope, anyways). I suppose it's impossible to cover everyone's tastes, and instead they tried to add variety via the costume department. Still, I can't help thinking from the spokesmodel that German guys all strive to be white, lean, dark haired, and hairless?
Regardless, it's a lot of fun, and THANKS for the scoop!
BTW: It does remind me of the "Xtra-Pine Cleaning Hunk" ad campaign. It's been around for a while, AND there's a choice of Brian (the 'standard' beefy white guy), or Jason, who's more the Latin lover type. BUT... you can choose which room of the house to clean (Kitchen or bathroom), what music to play (Latin, Dance, or Rock) and what outfit to wear (construction worker, cowboy, rocker, or GLADIATOR)!! Note: only Brian wears Gladiator and construction outfits, and Jason does Rocker and cowboy.
