Getcher gay TV spoilers here: "Desperate Housewives", "Dirty Sexy Money" and a mystery item
Michael Ausiello certainly knows how to start his first week at Entertainment Weekly with a bang: he's given quite the tantalizing blind item about a "sorta-hit series" with a "humdinger of a curveball for the upcoming season that is so twisty it will take the program in a completely new direction — and an inspired (not to mention timely) direction, at that!" Even better, "The twist in question is a little gay. No, make that a lot gay." Now, that certainly gets the wheels turning, especially with those tantalizing clues: a modest hit and one that would get taken into a totally new direction with this gay twist. I'm ruling out popular ensemble shows like Lost or Heroes since it would take a lot for a gay revelation to take the show in a new direction. Also, any show we frequently discuss here at AfterElton.com is probably out of the running, unless there's a show about to turn a "barely-there gay" into the focus of the show (waves in the direction of The Office). Also, unless Ausiello and I have very different ideas of "completely new direction", most procedural shows can be ruled out unless one of them is going to turn into a same-sex Hart to Hart. So, what "sorta-hit" shows could go in a new direction with a gay twist? The Big Bang Theory (which has already pinged some viewers' gaydar) would fit the bill. The show is currently about two heterosexual male nerds crushing on their female neighbor. If one of the guys turned out to be gay, it would change the show drastically while making it something unique. (How many gay nerds are there on scripted TV?) Then again, when last we saw 30 Rock's Jack Donaghy (Alec Baldwin), he had set off a gay bomb in a small Pentagon office ... what if the results were permanent? Would that take the show in a new direction?
Oh, and in case there are any "Wincest" fans out there, Ausiello has the following bit of disappointment: And no, Sam and Dean hooking up on Supernatural does not qualify as an intelligent guess. Hm, that would leave room for Dean to come out (it would give an explanation for his gay baiting humor). Then again, that wouldn't be much of a new direction. Meanwhile, Zap2It's Korbi Ghosh has some gay spoilers for Desperate Housewives and Dirty Sexy Money. Check them out and get yourself spoiled after the break... According to Ghosh, both of the Desperate Househusbands will be back in the upcoming "five years later" season, an interesting revelation considering the rumors that one of them will be living with Andrew in the new season. Then again, Ghosh also says that Bob "has got some serious issues ... like, seek professional help sort of issues", so maybe he'll be stalking Lee and Andrew. Sigh. Considering how Bob and Lee have been handled so far, this doesn't make me more excited about the new season. Robotech's Yellow Dancer: TV just doesn't have enough drag pop performers/freedom fighters Meanwhile, over on Dirty Sexy Money, Candis Cayne's Carmelita will be hiding out disguised as a man. My inner geek hopes the idea could give Cayne the chance to be a reverse-gendered version of Robotech's Yellow Dancer; at the least I hope it means more screen time for Cayne. Meanwhile, Carmelita's boyfriend, Patrick Darling, (William Baldwin) will be getting a divorce in order to marry her. Considering how much I like those two together, that has me looking forward to the new season. So. What do you think? Have a good theory on the "sorta hit" series that might go in a totally new and gay direction? How do the upcoming developments on Desperate Housewives or Dirty Sexy Money have you feeling about September? Submitted by on Mon, 2008-07-07 14:04. |

"Wincest!"
My new favorite word. Three seasons, and there's finally a term for the fantasy of Sam and Dean hooking up. What took so long?
In re The Big Bang Theory-while Leonard (Johnny Galecki) is crushing on the sexy neighbor, Sheldon (Jim Parsons) appears to have no sexual interest in her-or ANYONE at all. While he does seem gay-ish, in the same way Niles Crane was, I think he's supposed to be asexual. So I don't think that's the show being talked about.
I think 30 Rock is probably the best bet. One of the funniest episodes from Season 1 had Liz striking up a friendship with a lesbian that had her questioning her own heterosexuality. I could easily see just about ANY character from that show suddenly turning out to be gay. Or, even funnier, THINKING they're gay.
New? The term 'Wincest' has
New? The term 'Wincest' has been around since the beginning, in slasher circles. Get thee to the TWOP forums, or to Live Journal.
As a huge fan of Supernatural, I have my own little dream scenario about Dean's return from the spoiler, involving an amnesiac Dean who has found himself alone in a town with no-one to tell him who he's supposed to be. By the time Sam and Bobby track him down, he's shacked up with a cute male nurse called Carl, and working in IT or something apparently un-Dean like.
Cue Sam's explanation to Bobby when faced with stunned looks: Dean's always been an equal oppportunity horndog, and all the gay jokes really were just overcompensating.
It would be one way of coming back with a bang and in my opinion would open Supernatural up to a whole new audience. However, seeing as the writers weren't even open-minded enough to have Dean get it on with smokin' hot Ellen, played by Samantha Ferris (older women are icky), and seemingly can't think beyond a few cliches, I'm guessing this will just remain a dream.
Okay, well...
On Supernatural...
Argh, thanks...
Also, when Jared was on "Gilmore Girls"...
I am thinking a few shows that are discussed here .
The one that has been edging with some gay actors is PUSHING DAISIES. It did well enough to come back but was not a raging hit. They are re-tooling the show and I wonder about Raul Esparza or Paul Ruebens joing the cast regularly.
The other one is still what will happen with GOSSIP GIRL, it is hugely popular but it has low ratings. Would making someone else gay and involved with Erick take the show in a different direction? Ed Westwick seems to be keen on Lydia Hearst (Amelia) so it probably won't be him. There is always the line between TV Dan and the Novels' Dan that could be considered.
I dont think we should
I dont think we should expect anything gay from Gossip Girl after the ''big'' Erik being gay revelation.
Maybe Riggins and Street from Friday Night Lights finally admit their love for each other? (kind of wishful thinking on my part, lol)
Gay "Hart to Hart"
Wasn't Alan Cumming involved in some sort of TV project that was described as such, what, a year ago ... two years ago? What ever happened to that, I wonder ...

Riggens & Street?

The picture accompanying the blind item...
was identified as coming from "My Name is Earl," and yes, the author stated that the photo may or may not have anything to do with the twist. I thought perhaps he was using the title of the show as a clue, rather than saying it's that show. In other words, the character at the center of this twist could be named Earl, but it isn't THAT Earl.
But does any other show have an Earl?
...as fabulolus and flaming as a toaster oven soaring across the night sky....:-)
