Eleven guys who deserve to be bigger sex symbols While we certainly don't overlook the sex symbols accepted within the mainstream of pop culture, gay men also like to take a look forward and pay notice to the hunks on the rise, the sex symbols who haven't been given the recognition they deserve. Thus, we thought it might be fun to put together a list of sexy men who deserve to be better recognized for their sexiness, including plenty of men AfterElton.com readers have recognized in the Hot 100 List. Charlie Hunnam
Producers haven't underestimated the appeal of handsome and charismatic British actor who first got noticed as the young Nathan on the original Queer as Folk; he's been cast in a number of series that played off of his charm and good looks since QaF ... though all of those series are, at best, as a "Brilliant but Canceled" series (if not just plain canceled). Perhaps that will start to change with his upcoming fx series Sons of Anarchy where he plays a new father who joins a biker gang. If not, we'll always have Hunnam's memorable scenes with Aidan Gillen. Cristiano Ronaldo If there was more of an audience for soccer in the states, Ronaldo probably wouldn't belong on this list; whenever he's on the field it's hard not to be transfixed by the 23 year-old Portuguese footballer (except for when he's playing for Portugal for the Euro Cup and he has to compete for attention with Deco) but here the mainstream is only just noticing David Beckham's good looks. In the meantime, however, he's certainly gotten noticed by the gay blogosphere, including AfterElton readers who voted him twice into the AfterElton Hot 100. James Purefoy Gay audiences probably first noticed Purefoy in Bedrooms and Hallways, where Purefoy made time in the sauna a very uncomfortable situation for a gay man played by Kevin McKidd. Purefoy certainly has been busy (including a role on HBO's Rome as legendary lover Mark Anthony) but for some reason that one role that makes everyone remember all his other sexy performances hasn't happened yet. Taye Diggs This fall it looked like the talented Taye Diggs would finally get some due recognition for his sexiness and talent. After all, he had a role in the Grey's Anatomy spin-off Private Practice, and look at what Grey's did for Patrick Dempsey. Unfortunately, the WGA Strike wrapped up the season early, leaving some much-due buzz delayed for another season. Paul Rudd
Rudd's sexiness has probably gone underappreciated because of the roles he's taken. He may have first caught our attention as Alicia Silverstone's dreamy stepbrother in Clueless but lately his biggest hits have been in comedies that call for him to underplay his looks like Anchorman and The 40-Year Old Virgin. Still, having been voted into the AfterElton Hot 100 twice, it's not going completely unnoticed. Matt Keeslar Yes, I know, I talk about Keeslar a lot but not only is he someone who is hard not to stare at, but Keeslar also can be relied upon for a memorable performance whether that be as an immature rocker in Splendor or dropping deadpan one-liners in ABC Family's The Middleman. It takes a lot to wear "Hitler's smoking jacket" and still look good. Daniel Dae Kim For a little while, it looked like Kim would finally get some due recognition for his good looks thanks to the high-profile Lost. Not only was he voted into our first Hot 100 list, he was included in People magazine's "Sexiest Men Alive" issue. Alas, this year he fell off the Hot 100; perhaps that might have something to do with the reason I gave up Lost last season, namely a lack of screen time starting in the second season? Cheyenne Jackson The sexy triple-threat performer seems to be getting noticed, having placed in the top five of this year's AfterElton Hot 100, amid plenty of blogosphere buzz for his performance in Xanadu and for his ability to make fun of himself in a variety of viral videos. Hopefully, that's just the beginning for Jackson. Tyron Leitso Now that Lee Pace is finally getting recognized for his sexiness thanks to a role in Pushing Daisies, isn't it time we got Wonderfalls' other hottie back in the spotlight? I mean aside from being in Uwe Boll movies... Joel McHale It's fairly well-recognized that Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert are pin-ups for those who like their guy funny and smart, and The Soup's Joel McHale appeals to the same group. Who else could pull newsman Keith Olbermann and Simon Pegg into the same sketch and make it totally work? Brad Rowe He first captured our attention in Billy's Hollywood Screen Kiss and it seemed like he would break through in the Kevin Smith-created Wasteland. Unfortunately, Wasteland was short-lived. Rowe has captivated gay audiences once more in Shelter ... will we be seeing him pop up on the RADAR once more? Of course, it's impossible to put together a comprehensive list of sexy performers who aren't fully recognized. Who would you add to the list? Submitted by on Fri, 2008-08-08 14:05. Kyle ChandlerSubmitted by
joeyhegele (1147 points) (331 posts) on Fri, 2008-08-08 15:07.I tuned in to the TV show Friday Night Lights for the super-models passing as highschool football players, but I stayed for the older and yet insanely sexy Kyle Chandler. The show is also incredibly smart and well acted. Kyle Chandler as coach Taylor though makes me giggle like an 8 year old girl at a Jonas brothers concert. He is so sexy, and deserves to be recognized for it.

nordic balance (not verified) on Fri, 2008-08-08 17:38.You and me both. Brilliant show. I might be a little too much of a fan. I paid a huge buyout fee to my cable company so that I could get Directv. Too many people dismissed this show haphazardly based on its premise. The show is so much more than an exercise in hypermasculinity.

octobercountry (1358 points) (309 posts) on Sat, 2008-08-09 23:34.I'm currently watching the series "Homefront"---first time I've seen these episodes in 15 years. And as I watch I remember how much I liked Kyle Chandler in this show. Back when it first aired, I thought he was just about one of the most attractive fellows around (though unfortunately he only had a few shirtless scenes---heh, heh...). Rewatching the show all these years later, I still do find Jeff (his character) rather appealing. I'm like a superhero, with no powers or motivation... I think Darryl StephensSubmitted by
Tyreseus (245 points) (46 posts) on Fri, 2008-08-08 15:42.I think Darryl Stephens belongs on that list. I think a lot of people who first saw him on Noah's Arc wrote him off because he played a flamboyant, sorta femme guy. But his roles in Boy Culture, Another Gay Movie, even "Tranny MacGuyver" show him to be AmAzingly versatile and hot as hell.
...when two opposite points of view are expressed with equal intensity, the truth does not necessarily lie exactly halfway between them. It is possible for one side to be simply wrong. What about Adam Baldwin from Firefly! The man is sex onSubmitted by
a stick! I thought for sure after Firefly he was going to become huge. And I recently got to him in LA. Not only is he hot, hot, hot, but very nice as well.

By the way: why wasn't there an angry puppy episode this week? i thought they already had recorded one. Well, nevertheless Adam Baldwin is one of the few tradtionally traditional hunks who can sweep me off my feet any day any second anywhere. But my vote would go to Richard Armitage but of course you have to hear him talk, too. (there's even something remotely LGBT-related in the last clip as the woman in that scene also plays this godess from outerspace who kisses Tosh in Torchwood) (and Daniel Dae Kim is just too pretty to be good for your health)

giovannif7 (1699 points) (358 posts) on Fri, 2008-08-08 17:51.Adam Baldwin continues to bring the hot on his current show, "Chuck."
There's plenty of eye candy to go around, from star Zachary Levi as Chuck
to series regular Ryan McPartlin as Captain Awesome
to occasional guest star Matthew Bomer as Bryce Larkin
there are few current network shows that offer as much male eye candy! Between the men of "Chuck" and the male cast of "Heroes:" Milo Ventimiglia and Adrian Padar as the Petrelli Brothers
Zachary Quinto as Sylar
and the impossibly gorgeous (IMHO) Sendhil Ramamurthy as Mohinder

nordic balance (not verified) on Fri, 2008-08-08 17:35.NO matter what we in the states think of him, Christian Ronaldo is a sex GOD in his own mind. I really don't like him at all. So arrogant. Ah, Wonderfalls. I tear up any time I hear someone mention that show. Brilliant, mishandled and gone long before it's time. Add Kyle Chandler to that list. I'm not sure exactly how the rest of the world views him, but I think this man does NOT get enough attention when it comes to his sex appeal. He's got the most gorgeous Scottish accent, and a face that's extremely sexy in a refreshingly different way. Brad Pitt is THE most overrated when it comes to looks, and I'm so sick of his face being a sort of 'default handsome' in people's minds. People should go for a different sexy. A James McAvoy sexy. ^_~ OMG I totally agree withSubmitted by

GaySpouseDotCom (1126 points) (360 posts) on Sat, 2008-08-09 01:23.Taye Diggs is totally hot. And it doesn't hurt that he reminds me of the first guy who ever kissed me in a completely romantic, weak-in-the-knees way. Most guys know how to kiss, and then there are those who know how to kiss - in a take your breath away, make the world stand still, turn the moments into blissful eternity kind of way. James Purefoy was really hot in Bedrooms & Hallways. He reminds me of the first guy I dated in college, only Purefoy is English. And yes it's true, in college you will find lots of gay and bi and extremely curious guys in the Communications Department, pursuing Journalism, Advertising, Film, TV, Radio, and Theatre degrees. You will also find college athletes like football players who have hurt themselves on the field and are now looking for a major they can enjoy and use their good looks. Too cute for words, and he played such an appealing character---with that combination of looks and personality, I really did fall for him as Eric. If anyone hasn't seen the series (just 13 episodes), by all means give it a rental---it's hilarious. Thank God I'm not alone on this! I seriously dont get his appeal either and his face looks a bit too ''done'' and pretty. I dont like his attitude either.

Oh, Lyle! Granted, most of these guys aren't at Pitt's height of "sex symbol" but, c'mon! I'm not going to support a man who has visible abdominal muscles and a killer smile. They are already eating at the Lucky Buffet and we're all drooling outside the windows...
I will give pseudo-props to Joel McHale (nerd hunk), Daniel Dae Kim (minority hunk), and Paul Rudd (hairy/dreamy hunk) but the rest can go grate cheese on their abs and have teeth whitening parties elsewhere! And where are the big guys? Give me Nick Frost! Give me Tyler Labine!
