GLAAD condemns Jerry Lewis' f-word usage

It looks like GLAAD was quick to take notice of Jerry Lewis' utterance of the f-word on live TV during yesterday's MDA Telethon. The group has already made a statement condemning Lewis' use of the anti-gay slur, which came in the 18th hour of the broadcast.

GLAAD President Neil G. Giuliano saying that Lewis' slip, "“feeds a climate of hatred and intolerance that contributes to putting our community in harm's way. Our nation’s media have done an admirable job this year holding public figures accountable for their use of anti-gay slurs, and I hope they continue to do so with Mr. Lewis." GLAAD is requesting a meeting with Lewis to discuss the incident.

Considering how tired Lewis looks in the clip, I can see a sincere apology quieting this controversy pretty quickly. The clock is ticking however, and a quick response is the difference between "I knew that was a terrible thing to say as soon as I said it and I'm very sorry." and "Here is a carefully crafted statement meant to sound like an apology, but meant to minimize my responsibility for what I said."
