UPDATE: "Gossip Girl": OMG! Did I blink?
UPDATE: Okay, we were sworn to secrecy and we stayed true to our word. But apparently no one told the actors on the show that they weren't supposed to spill the beans! If you want to find out, head on over here. If not, ignore, and join the kvetchfest below. (Note: the actor in question simply confirms that the scenes were filmed, so I guess we're still expecting there to be a coming-out in the next couple of weeks. We shall see...) Looking at the comments for yesterday's Queerview, I wasn't the only one who tuned in to Gossip Girl last night, eager to see the resolution to a recent Michael Ausiello scoop promising that we'd see a Gossip guy revealed as gay. So, we tuned in and the gay character turned out to be... ...nobody, unless I (along with some of our commenters) blinked or dozed off during a key scene. So where was the big reveal? Was it taken out for later? Did I misread the spoiler? Still, watching last night's episode for signs that it was headed to a gay revelation certainly made things a little more interesting. Two of the most popular suspects, soon-to-be stepbrothers Chuck and Eric, spent the episode bonding with Eric becoming Chuck's mini-me. I certainly wondered if Eric might be developing an uncomfortable crush on the charismatic (but entirely selfish) Chuck. On the other hand, Chuck wasn't his usual, smug self, coming off as almost sympathetic. Was that the setup for Chuck to display some vulnerability with a coming out scene? At one point, I was hoping we might learn something was going on between Rufus and the guy helping him carry a crate into his art gallery ... okay that moment was mostly fueled by Matthew Settle's good looks. Hopefully Gossip Girl's gay guy is just postponed, hopefully just until next week. What did you think? Did last night's episode change your suspicions on who might get outed? The thing is I never knew
The thing is I never knew they were going to reveal who it was last night. I thought it was just going to happen on one of the episodes before the season finale. I'm not upset that it didn't happen last night, in fact I think it would have been rushed since nothing was really happening that the character would have to come out as gay.
I still think it is Eric though. He has given off a gay vibe from the beginning and he was getting pretty close to Chuck last night in an odd way. Who knows though :-)
Another wasted hour of TV
I watched Gossip Girl for the first and last time last night and was not even inpressed. All I found was a bunch of bitchy little girls trying to outdo each other. The male leads did nothing for me as far as their characters. Some were cute, but so what? I could care less if they make any of them gay. The war in Iraq will still go on. Gas prices will continue to rise. Nuke (Puke) will continue to be a complete disaster. This show is not that impressive. Just because they supposedly are going to introduce a gay character won't make me tune in. I never cared for Will and Grace when it was running. I couldn't stand the mincing Jack (Sean Hayes, who BTW has never "officially" come out) and the character of Will was not authentic.
So much for this news flash!
Oh come on -- they're ALL Gay!!!!!
Well folks, after all the hype, the New York Magazine cover story and the biggest poster campaign since Emily's Reasons Why Not, I finally experienced Gossip Girl. And guess what? It's gayer than Anderson Cooper's sock drawer!
Daytime TV is home base to gay actors -- who inhabit resolutely straight characters on soaps (as we all know Nuke is the least gay thing about ATWT) Gossip Girl is soap closet gayness turned up to 11 !!! My Gaydar was pinging so loud it roused every dog on the block. And not just the ones owned by Mariah Carey either. I kept expect Badley Mishka (that's his name, isn't it?) to jump Chace Crawford in every scene. And it's clear that it's a l'ombre des jeunes filles en fleurs time when it comes to les demoiselles -- whose resolutely sapphic demeanor would have delighted a classic lesbian-hag like Proust.
If actual gayness with an actual out gay character were added to the mix what would happen? Surely the show would become completely incoherent.
OMG!!!!!
I think the character is
Chuck is a bit of a
Better NOT be Chuck...
All I can say us that it better not be Chuck because I agree that his charater is a sociopath and quite evil.
The gay community has been abused enough in the history of film linking sociopaths and gayness. Having Chuck gay would be tolally uncalled for and quite narrow minded.
Stop the bleeding PLEASE.

Isn't
Actually
Nate Archibald is the character that eventually comes out of the closet in the book series (but that's later on). I agree, Eric will probably be the one to come out on the show.
