Lost in space training: Are two inches of Lance Bass MIA?
Lance Bass visited The Tonight Show Friday and before his current Dancing with the Stars run came up, the discussion turned towards Bass' period of in Cosmonaut training. Which led to this bizarre revelation: somehow the experience left Bass two inches shorter. Lance explained how it might have happened: "...because my torso was too long to fit in the Soyuz Rocket, which a lot of people don't know the Soyuz Rocket is a lot like our Apollo days, three people fit and your knees are in your chest. It's a very uncomfortable ride, not like our shuttle. My torso was too long to fit in the seat so they had to make this special suit so that when I was in space it would contract me." Someone needs to take steps to find that documentary footage of Bass' training. It sounds like it could easily be the reality TV version of that Skins episode where the gang goes to Russia and wacky misadventures ensue. Check out a clip of Bass talking about his Cosmonaut training experience after the break. Submitted by on Tue, 2008-11-11 15:55. |

That's open for debate
I'd want a more scientific opinion on this as it's the first I've ever heard of astronauts/cosmonauts shrinking from their space training. Lance never actually flew in the Soyuz capsule and he's claiming that due to cramped quarters he had to be put into a spacesuit that compressed his body? He's listed at 5'10" -- is that before or after the shrinkage!
I've seen video footage of recent Soyuz launches and it doesn't look any more cramped for the cosmonauts than riding in the back seat of a compact car. The Ruskies were probably punking him for being a former member of 'N Sync, and we all know they prefer the Backstreet Boys.
No you see, they
No you see, they didn't lop two inches off of Bass' frame- otherwise his boyfriend would probably sue the Russian Space Program. The suit compresses you down inthe zero gravity of space, but once he's back on Terra Firma he gets his two inches back!!
