The Ellen DeGeneres Show (syndicated) Checl local listings
Yes, there's one more week of waiting before Ugly Betty returns with new episodes, but in the meantime we have Ellen chatting with America Ferrera. That's gotta quiet those withdrawal pains a little bit.
Eli Stone (ABC) 10:00 PM EDT
Eli meets God in tonight's season finale (who looks like a certain pop singer) as he represents man in a right-to-die case while preparing for a dangerous surgery to remove his brain aneurysm. I've got my fingers crossed we'll be seeing more of Eli next season, as this quirky drama set just the right tone for me with its mix of humor, unconventional takes on social issues and character drama. Anyone else feeling this way?
Step It Up and Dance (Bravo) 10:00 PM EDT
You Got Served choreographer Dave Scott is this week's guest judge as the dancers' freestyle moves are challenged. Last week's episode was more interesting for me than the premiere (and gay contestant Oscar certainly brings plenty of cuteness) but the judges' fixation with manliness is starting to test my patience.

If Eli Stone is not picked up next season...
Another "Eli Stone" fan
They dangled the tasty Jonny Lee Miller to get my interest ... then gave me a great, unabashedly liberal, visually-dazzling show to keep me hooked.
"Eli Stone" is one of the best shows on television (along with fellow ABC freshman "Dirty Sexy Money"), and definitely deserves another season.
Is This "Step It Up and Dance" Or "Stop Being So Gay"?
I'm glad I'm not the only one irked at the judge's homophobia on "Step It Up and Dance." Episode One has a female judge criticize a gay contestant for not being "masculine" enough (in a routine designed around the Spice Girls, mind you, with a key component of the challenge a solo dance where the contestants were supposed to show their own moves and personality) and then she sits there and accepts the word "faggy" as an apt description for what she meant. Episode Two had another judge criticize a gay contestant for not being "masculine" or "manly" enough in a, ahem, cabaret routine where the male contestants were all playing gay or bisexual men.
But the thing that really pushed it over the edge for me was this comment, by judge Vincent Patterson, over on his blog about the show on Bravo's website. (Patterson is talking about James, the gay male contestant eliminated at the end of Episode Two):
Vincent Patterson: "The lesson he needs to learn is to bring an essence of himself into the performing mix without cramming his sexual preference down our throats."

"Cramming his sexual preference down our throats?" Uh, when did James Dobson become a Bravo tv judge? "Preference"? "Down our throats"? Yikes. I'm starting to wonder if this show belongs on Fox News rather than Bravo.
Eli Stone
One of my favorite shows. I don't know if we have to thank the writers' strike or if ABC has planned it for mid season anyway; either way I'm glad they put it on. I really hope they bring it back.
It has the same kind of quirkiness that Scrubs has. And the cast is wonderful. The musical visions are my favorite because the songs are so appropriate and you never know who's going to sing in them.
Here's to seeing Eli next season.
