News, Reviews & Commentary on Gay and Bisexual Men in Entertainment and the Media

Queerview television guide for March 10

The Loved One (Turner Classic Movies) 2:45 PM EST
This 1965 film has a few names for gay viewers to take notice. This campy satire of the funeral industry is based on a novel by Evelyn Waugh (co-writer of Brideshead Revisited) and with a screenplay co-written by Christopher Isherwood (who has a cameo role). Liberace also makes an appearance. From what I can gather, this is one of those films that has some very passionate fans.

How I Met Your Mother (CBS) 8:00 PM EST
Neil Patrick Harris' hit comedy returns next week from its strike-forced hiatus, and tonight's rerun is a great one to jump back into the series with Barney's gay brother James (Wayne Brady) returning as the guys attend the Victoria's Secret Fall Fashion Show... prompting a Heidi Klum appearance for those of you already suffering from Project Runway withdrawal.

Transamerican Love Story mini-marathon (Logo) starting at 8:00 PM EST
Or those of you frustrated (I hear you, believe me) with the lack of reruns for Logo's groundbreaking reality dating show, here's your chance to play catchup as Logo reruns the first three episodes (so that, sadly, doesn't include last week's episode which included an appearance by James St. James). Meet Calpernia's suitors, watch them struggle to make a southern dinner and see them run through exercise drills in their skivvies all over again.

The Loved One is truly amazing. Still trying to figure out how they got away with it. The most wonderful thing is you can easily distinguish the Isherwood lines from the Terry Southern lines.

There's gay interest all over the place: John Gielgud, Tab Hunter, Barbara Nichols, Liberace (of course) and director Tony Richardson (who was Bi and died of AIDS.)

Unforgettable stuff: Ma Joyboy (Aileen Gibbons) attacking a refrigerator and wallowing in food (top that, John Waters!), Rod Steiger putting the finishing touches on a corpse, Anjanette Comer on her swing attached to the condemned house she lives in, Jonathan Winters in two roles, Paul Williams as a boy genius, and best of all the great Lionel Stander as "Guru Brahamin," the Lonelyhearts columnist screaming "Tell her to marry the other jerk!"
