Queerview television guide (The Weekend of November 13)

This weekend sees the debut of AMC's re-imagining of the iconic The Prisoner with Sir Ian McKellen as Number Two. Can the paranoia and weirdness of the counterculture original be used to comment on where we are today?

That's just part of a gay TV weekend that includes Tyra Banks discussing Glee and Precious, Riley continuing to struggle with his sexuality on Degrassi and colliding teams on The Amazing Race.

And it all starts with an explosive (okay, probably not that explosive) As the World Turns which we'll be following with a liveblog so be sure to join us starting at 2PM Eastern!

Friday

The Tyra Banks Show (syndicated) Check local listings
It's a gay pop culture double-feature as Tyra talks with the cast of Glee, who will get to judge real Glee Clubs in the "Tyra Show Glee Off". Then, Tyra will talk with Gabourey “Gabby” Sidibe and Paula Patton of the movie Precious.

As the World Turns (CBS) Check local listings
As one love triangle looks set to end, Nuke sounds like they're headed to another triangle, one that will start with a bang on today's episode.

Degrassi: The Next Generation (Teen Nick) 8:00 PM EST
Riley is back in the spotlight in this dramatic two-parter, where the closeted jock tries to de-gay himself by focusing on his relationship with his girlfriend.

Ugly Betty (ABC) 9:00 PM EST
Adam Rodriguez appears as the bad bog from Hilda and Betty's past — as well as a new teacher at Justin's school. And while Justin's school life is in focus, Marc has some advice for fitting in.

A Cicada in Winter (Logo) 10:00 PM EST
Alien Boot Camp brings what I believe is the first YAOI movie to air on Logo, a historical romance set in the tumultuous era when Japan was debating how to handle relationships with European countries. Fans of Youka Nitta might recognize that this story takes the leads from Embracing Love and transports them to another time period.

Saturday

The Graham Norton Show (BBC America) 10:00 PM EST
This week Graham chats with Doctor Who's exiting Doctor David Tennant, singer Alison Moyet and Johnny Vegas. Since Tennant will be discussing his departure from the franchise, I'm debating if I'm going to keep my guy spoiler-free on that upcoming development.

The Cho Show Marathon (Logo) starting at 10:00 PM EST
If you missed part of Margaret Cho's reality comedy, here's your chance to catch up on the first season.

The Wanda Sykes Show (Fox) 11:00 PM EST
Wow. I was not expecting a show with such a strong gay sensibility... too bad, looking at the reviews, I'm only one of a dozen people who laughed throughout the episode. Still, I'm sure even the viewers who wasn't laughing will enjoy playing a game of "Which guest will start slurring their words first?" This week's candidates are radio host Tom Joyner and Nia Vardalos.

Sunday

The Amazing Race (CBS) 8:00 PM EST
After last week's tension between Team Gay and Team Sweet Georgia Brown, things turn physicals the two teams end up in a footrace and end up in a literal collision.

The Prisoner (AMC) 8:00 PM EST
AMC reimagines the classic UK series that managed to make a long-term mark on pop culture with its surreal imagery and themes of individualism. While I wouldn't consider myself a fan of the original, I've enjoyed most of the episodes I've managed to run across, so I'm curious to see how the show translates to the modern era, especially with Sir Ian McKellen as Number Two.

The Prisoner's Jim Caviezel and Sir Ian McKellen

Brothers & Sisters (ABC) 10:00 PM EST
It's time for the local wine festival where Ojai's new wine will face the palates of the buying public and where Nora and Sarah deal with their love lives.

Ready? Ok! (Logo) 10:00 PM EST
A stressed-out single mother struggles to raise a ten-year-old son who is making waves at his Catholic school for his gender non-conformity, aspiring to be a part of the cheerleading squad and love of Maria von Trapp.

NewNowNext Music (Logo) Midnight EST
This week, Logo's music show debuts the new video from out rapper Drew Mason.

Daytime Preview for Monday, November 16

Live with Regis and Kelly (syndicated) Check local listings
Gay-fave Anderson Cooper is scheduled to appear on Monday's show, though it's not clear if he's a guest or if he'll be filling-in for Regis.
