News, Reviews & Commentary on Gay and Bisexual Men in Entertainment and the Media

Queerview television guide for the weekend of October 10

Friday

Sordid Lives Marathon (Logo) starting at 12:30 PM EDT
Catch the all ten episodes of the season to air so far, spanning from the death of Tammy Wynette to Peggy and GW's tawdry affair. A great chance to catch up as the series heads towards the season finale.

Degrassi: The Next Generation (The N) 8:00 PM EDT
I thought gay youth Marco (played by out actor Adamo Ruggiero) was written out last season along with other Degrassi gays, but The N is still listing him as part of the cast. Still, even without Marco, there might be reason to keep Degrassi on the Queerview radar, as I keep running into rumors and/or speculation that there's a gay character among the new Degrassi students or the ones who showed up last year. I guess that's reason for me to see if I can survive another season of Anya tedium.

Chris Diamantopoulos

The Starter Wife (USA) 9:00 PM EDT
Last summer's mini-series returns and supposedly we'll be seeing a larger role for Molly's (Debra Mesing) gay BFF, Rodney (Chris Diamantopoulos). Things actually look promising as tonight's premiere finds him with a story of his own, as he meets a crush-inspiring action movie star.

Saturday

Paula's Party (Food Network) 7:00 PM EDT
This week Paula invites over "Primetime Cuties" Carson Kressley, Ugly Betty's Mark Indelicato, and former 90210 hunk Jason Priestley for a variety of southern dishes.

Sunday

General Hospital: Night Shift Marathon (SOAPnet) starting at Noon EDT
Get ready for Tuesday's season finale by catching up on a whole season of Port Charles' gay doc Kyle Julian (Adam Grimes), including his tense relationship with his brother Leo, his friendship with galpal Claire as well as his meeting and bonding with sweetheart Eric (Chad Allen), including one steamy kiss.

Kyle Grimes and Chad Allen

The Life and Times of Vivienne Vyle (Sundance) 9:00 PM EDT
A gossip journo seeks to out Jared (Conleth Hill) by proving that he was at a wild gay party where a rent boy died. This calls for damage control that only Miriam (Christopher Ryan) can provide.

True Blood (HBO) 9:00 PM EDT
After last week's discovery, Sookie understandably tries to find someplace where she can get away from all the drama. With Jason wrestling with withdrawl symptoms, it might be a good time... then again, when isn't a good time to get away from all that mess?

Brothers & Sisters (ABC) 10:00 PM EDT
It's the tough career choices week as Sarah (Rachel Griffiths) and Kevin (Matthew Rhys) get pushed to the point where they just can't take it any more. For Sarah, the final straw comes from Holly, while for Kevin frustration comes from his first experience with homophobia at work.

Skins' Maxxie (Mitch Hewer) and dad Walter (Bill Bailey)

Skins (BBC America) 10:00 PM EDT
I'll be keeping my fingers crossed that tonight's second-season premiere finally lets us get to know gay teen Maxxie a little better, as he once again shares the title of the episode. (Unfortunately, he shares it with Tony.) After last week's rather sudden ending (was last Sunday all about musical numbers and bloody endings?), Maxxie spends part of tonight's episode playing nurse/counsellor. Also, we finally meet Maxxie's dad, which finally catches him up to the rest of the cast.

Little Britain USA (HBO) 10:30 PM EDT
Hmm, with Sebastian Love, Dafyyd and Emily Howard all appearing in tonight's episode this is starting to feel like one of the series' gayest combination of sketches I can remember on a single Little Britain.

    Skins: My Ongoing Defence

The beginning of this series is very Maxxie-centric. Even the second episode focuses on a new character who is, in fact, **SPOILER ALERT** Maxxie's stalker. I actually started to get a little sick of hearing so much about him, to be honest. Be warned though, he does disappear for a couple of episodes towards the end and when he returns he magically has a boyfriend. I don't remember Tony being in the title for this episode, although a lot of the series focuses on him post-accident. He has his own episode later in the series and I don't remember him featuring much in this one.

One thing I didn't like about this series, which will be the last for this group of friends, was that Anwaar is incredibly absent. Not only is he the only character denied his own title episode but he features very little in the others.

No, Tony did have a fair

No, Tony did have a fair bit to do in this episode. It's just that most of it involved Maxxie alongside him, which is obviously a good thing, as Maxxie also has a lot to do on his own (unlike last time). I love the storyline between Maxxie and his father; even if it is a little cliche, it's still done well. And Tony's visibility it is a lot more enjoyable than the earlier episodes of last season where Tony was front and centre, because it is interesting to watch him after the accident. I loved his episode (#6) - well, I loved the end of it anyway. The middle was one of Skins' more surreal hours.

But yeah, in terms of visibility Anwaar and Maxxie seem to have switched places this season.
