Queerview television guide: the Weekend of September 18

The highlight of this weekend's gay TV is Neil Patrick Harris hosting The Emmy Awards, but we also get Kathy Griffin's return to The View, the latest Clive Barker story to make the jump to film and a big day at the office for Lloyd on Entourage.

And it all starts when Oliver continues the conversation with his parents on today's One Life to Live. Join us for a liveblog at 2:00 PM EST.

Friday

The View (ABC) Check local listings
It looks like Kathy Griffin received an unbanning because she's scheduled to appear on today's show along with Rachel Zoe. And just after they faced Joel McHale who has mocked them so much. And to make things even more interesting, Kate Gosselin is guest-hosting.

One Life to Live (ABC) Check local listings
Oliver's talk with his parents awkwardly continues today -- so does finding a copy of "How to Tell Your Parents You're Gay?" get the conversation rolling? (And not the "You didn't tell us you had a gay roommate, Oliver." conversation.)

The Ellen DeGeneres Show (syndicated) Check local listings
If you're not hyped for the Emmys yet, perhaps a chat between Ellen and Emmys host Neil Patrick Harris will get you hyped for the event.

Tavis Smiley (PBS) Check local listings
Mad Man genius Matthew Weiner is scheduled to visit the show today. Since Smiley's discussions are usually carry a lot more depth and analysis than the average talk show appearance, I figure there's a good chance gay art director Sal will be a part of the discussion.

The 2009 Alma Awards (ABC) 8:00 PM EDT
Honoring Latino heritage and its impact on American culture, Ugly Betty (which has been honored in 2007 and 2008) is nominated for several awards, along with The Office's Oscar Nunez.

Saturday

Sit Down, Shut Up (Fox) 11:59 PM EDT
The staff gets lessons on love and relationships thanks to Ennis, which will leave us hoping even more that Andrew doesn't get much story time.

Sunday

Mad Men marathon (AMC) starting at 10:00 AM EDT
If you missed episodes from this season (and if you missed Sal's chance to direct a commercial for a diet soda based on Bye Bye Birdie, I highly recommend it) AMC is giving you a chance to catch up.

The Emmy Awards (CBS) 8:00 PM EDT
Fresh off of his acclaimed work as host of the Tony Awards, Neil Patrick Harris hosts TV's big night. The gay and gay-adjacent nominees include NPH himself, Sir Ian McKellan, Sigourney Weaver, Prayers for Bobby, Project Runway and The Amazing Race.

Clive Barker's Book of Blood (SyFy) 9:00 PM EDT
The SyFy Channel's latest original movie is inspired by the stories that bookended the Books of Blood, the short story collection that turned out horror writer Clive Barker into an overnight sensation. It follows a paranormal expert who finds a house where the "highways" of the afterlife meet.

Entourage (HBO) 10:30 PM EDT
As Lloyd transitions into finally being an agent, Ari decides to get revenge for the betrayal and to steal Lloyd's client.
