Queerview television guide: the Weekend of September 25

Fall TV is back in session this weekend and that means that some frequent gay TV picks are back with new episodes -- The Amazing Race returns with out brothers Sam and Dan, a new family moves in on Desperate Housewives and Kevin and Scotty might have a baby to care for on Brothers & Sisters this season.
And we've got two chances for audience participation when we liveblog today's One Life to Live at 2PM Eastern and end the weekend with a Brothers & Sisters livechat!

After this week's coming out drama, Oliver finally gets to have a drama-free coming out with McBain. In the meantime, I'm dealing with the idea of forgiving Marty for the horrible things she did to Billy Douglas after her kind words on Oliver's behalf.
Real Time with Bill Maher (HBO) 11:00 PM EDT
This certainly is bound to be interesting. The politically incorrect comedian's guest list this week includes the frequently shocking John Waters. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that, with some of the recent news, Waters will announce a new film which will take on race relations.

Late Night with Jimmy Fallon (NBC) 12:35 AM EDT
Gay fave director Kevin Smith visits tonight. Hopefully, he'll have a chance to bring up his upcoming horror film and its Fred Phelps-inspired villain.
Saturday
Sit Down, Shut Up (Fox) Midnight EDT
When the school gets turned into a storm shelter, things turn into the expected chaos. There's no mention of barely-there (and we like him that way) bisexual teacher Andrew LeGustambos in the synopsis but that still leaves room for him to say a few cringe-inducing jokes.
Sunday
The Amazing Race's Sam and Dan
The Amazing Race (CBS) 8:00 PM EDT
The gold standard of reality competition TV returns with a two-hour premiere and, after last season's all-star gay father and son, the latest season has a team of gay brothers, Sam and Dan -- but can they survive the first elimination, which takes place at the starting line?
Desperate Housewives (ABC) 9:00 PM EDT
Marc Cherry's over-the-top soap that I just can't quit -- no matter how many repetitive stories it may throw out or potential it may miss -- returns for its sixth season tonight. And while last season's cliffhanger was a real clunker, there's another new secretive family on Wisteria Lane -- will they be the Applewhites (see previous comment about wasted potential) or the Hodges?
American Dad (Fox) 9:30 PM EDT
While Family Guy has lost its groove in how it has handled gay issues, Seth McFarlane's second series.... well, it's not awful, even if it often just misses at using comedy to make its commentary evn more pointed. In the fifth season premiere, Steve gets a chance to sing the national anthem on Veterans' Day but that opportunity spirals out of control when omnisexual alien Roger offers to help.
Brothers & Sisters (ABC) 10:00 PM EDT
Okay, so last season, had way too much of Kitty, the Senator and the new guy, I've still got my hopes that Kevin and Scotty'getting a gayby will give the couple their own storylines. Ah well, worst case scenario -- we get too many opportunities for snark.
