I thought Thursday was supposed to be the day when the networks put the DVR into overdrive, not Wednesday? I think I'll still be watching shows I record today when the weekend comes around.
As the World Turns (CBS) 1:00 PM EDT
According to today's show description, "Luke can't suppress his feelings for Noah" and yesterday's preview promised the scene where their hands accidentally touch (like I said, adorably retro.) And it only took them two and a half weeks to get to this point. And remember to vote for the storyline, if you haven't already! Or even if you have.
Screened Out: Gay Images in Film (Turner Classic Movies) starting at 5:00 PM EDT
Comedies are featured tonight, including Doris Roberts in 1931's Manhattan Parade, Katherine Hepburn in 1935's Sylvia Scarlett, Cary Grant and Doris Day in 1962's Touch of Mink, Mel Brooks' 1963 classic The Producers as well as Lauren Bacall's 1957 film, Designing Women.

Hidden Palms (The CW) 8:00 PM EDT
It's burn-off time for this summer drama as The CW starts airing two episodes a night. For a little while, I had the "not much is on during the summer" excuse but... well, look at tonight's recommendations. At the least, the presence of Leslie Jordan is enough for me to TiNo this one until its finale.
Last Comic Standing (NBC) 9:00 PM EDT
I've been surprised at how watchable this season has been so far, and a number of gay comedians have gotten a spotlight. I was disappointed last week that Richard Rider didn't make it to the next round, but one of my favorite out comedians, Sabrina Matthews, will be going further in the competition. Hopefully, more great LGBT comedians will be a part of tonight's auditions.
Top Chef (Bravo) 11:00 PM EDT
Suddenly, Top Chef has become the exact show I hoped it would be when it first debuted. I've bitched plenty to my friends during Top Chef's first two seasons, but my only complaint this time is the lack of Ted Allen in the season premiere. My inner epicure geek was engaged in a way Top Chef hasn't managed before and this season's villain (presumably, the writers could always be faking us out) actually comes off as a culinary marvel. If you need to catch up, Bravo's repeating the premiere episode before this new episode, or you can read Steven Frank's very excellent recap.
Late Night with Conan O'Brien (NBC) 12:30 AM EDT
The hilarious and queer-friendly Wanda Sykes is scheduled to show up tonight. I'd be tempted to say that Sykes can make anything funny, but I've learned otherwise after watching Monster-in-Law and The New Adventures of Old Christine, so I'll just say that Sykes' presence can make any talk show worth watching.
Starter Wife
Also for tonight ...
The American Film Institute will present the 10th Anniversary Edition of "AFI's 100 Years ... 100 Movies" on CBS, with notice expected to be given to such gay faves as The Wizard of Oz, All About Eve, Sunset Boulevard and (could it be!) Brokeback Mountain.
As the World Turns and turns and turns...
I wish that the powers that be over at ATWT would stop spinning with this storyline. What is this 2007 or 1887. My God, all this hand ringing because a couple of boys are going to lock lips and maybe share a little intimacy as in hugs. It's not as though they're going to be stripping naked and going at it in bed. And now look at this nonsence, we even have to have a poll to determine if Luke should or should not have a relationship with another young man. Dear Lord, can American audiences take the shock and awe of some man on man sweet pecks and kisses. This is just stupid. Some of soaps just stop short of soft porn when it comes to the male/female intimacy, but God forbid we have two men kissing. Why don't the people over at ATWT just go head first with this storyline and let the chips fall as they may. I think in 2007 soaps in the USA can handle a detailed gay storyline. I'm almost certain if it's presented well there will not be much of an outcry. There will always be the homophobes, but they're voices are getting smaller and smaller.
ATWT should take a page out of the soapy series HollyOaks over in England. It comes on a major TV channel at 6:30pm with the younger crowd in mind. And there is a wonderful gay storyline unfolding. The kisses between Craig/JP/Spike would put Brothers & Sisters to shame. And there is a huge fan following for Craig and JP. It's one of the favorite on going storylines presently up front and center. I'm pleased that BBC America is finally showing the series...but why is it on so late at 10:30pm at night?
