Ryan Murphy has another TV series in the works, apparently gives up sleep

It's looking clear that Popular and Nip/Tuck creator Ryan Murphy won't be getting any rest for quite some time. He's just added yet another project to his 'To Do' list — a new pilot for NBC about a stressed-out man who suffers from a wide variety of psychosomatic ailments. "Hyper-chondriac" is based on a memoir of the same name by Brian Farzer.

If my count is right that leaves Murphy working on two series and four films right now! While Murphy's gotten some mixed reactions from his gay fans, the way Murphy brings a gay sensibility to his work is always worth getting excited about, so we thought it might be fun to take a look at what Murphy has in the works and rate how gay each project could be by the "Mary Cherry standard." In case you don't remember, Mary Cherry was the hilariously superficial and judgmental comic relief character from Murphy's first series, Popular.)

Mary Cherry (Leslie Grossman) from Popular

Check out how Mary Cherry rates each of Murphy's new projects after the break!

Project:

Hyper-Chondriac

What's it about?

A stressed-out pharmaceutical salesman develops symptoms that are all in his head.

How gay is that?

Not very, so far. It's based on the memoir of a straight, married man and considering NBC's low score on the GLAAD inclusiveness index, I don't expect a lot of notes asking the show to be more gay inclusive.

Cherry sez...
One Mary Cherry -- we'll wait and see if she brings some friends.

Project:

Eat/Pray/Love

What's it about?

Based on the memoir of Elizabeth Gilbert, this one has Julia Roberts playing a woman who seems to have the ideal life but finds herself deeply depressed until she goes on a soul-searching trip to Italy, India and Indonesia.

How gay is that?

Hm, a movie about a smart woman who finds herself by throwing herself into a new life? It's no Beaches but this journey of self-discovery sounds like it's got a seaside view.

Cherry sez...
Two and a half Mary Cherries until we hear that there's a good cry in this one.

Project:

Alfred Hitchcock and the Making of Psycho

What's it about?

Anthony Hopkins plays the legendary director, Hellen Miren plays his creative partner and wife in a movie about the making of the classic Psycho, a film that darkly touched on gay themes and starred a (then-closeted) bisexual Anthony Perkins.

How gay is that?

Considering that Hitchock had to fight to get a film this dark made (as well as Perkin's sexual orientation) there could be a number of gay themes in this one.

Cherry sez...
Three Mary Cherries, pretty gay.

Project:

Need

What's it about?

Nicole Kidman is Naomi Watts' Single, White, Husband-Stealing Mental-Patient.

How gay is that?

The only way this could sound gayer is if Kidman and Watts were replaced by Bette Davis and Joan Crawford drag performers.

Cherry sez...
Four and a half Mary Cherries, I can't wait for the scene where Nicole Kidman walks down the stairs with a perfect Naiomi Watts haircut. Oh, wait...

Project:

Dirty Tricks

What's it about?

Meryl Streep plays Martha Mitchell the wife of Nixon's Attorney General, an outspoken woman who told anyone who would listen what she knew about Watergate.

How gay is that?

If you need a short version of why Martha Michell is an icon for gay political junkies, I'll just point you to Oliver Stone's Nixon biopic where Madeline Kahn played Mitchell... and Jean Smart's 24 character, Martha Logan was based on Mitchell. Plus, she had such a strong personality you only needed to use her first name for people to know who you were discussing. And if one gay icon playing another isn't enough there's also Annette Bening cast to play White House correspondent Helen Thomas.

Cherry sez...
Streep! Benning! Martha! Helen! That combination is so worth five Mary Cherries.

Project:

Glee

What's it about?

This Fox pilot follows a Spanish teacher recruited to coach a terrible glee club and will include "organic" musical performances.

How gay is that?

First off, it's about a terrible bunch of high school singers who are inspired to turn things around -- and underdog stories that include musical performances are usually pretty popular with gay audiences (as long as the words "Back in the Habit" doesn't appear in the title). However, Murphy has also said he's looking to bring on a diverse cast that does include gay students.

Cherry sez...
This one has the potential to be the next Popular -- that takes us beyond the Mary Cherry rating system and into the purview of her mother, Cherry Cherry!
