The Week in Gay Geek: "Fallout 3" is massive, the "Dollhouse" gets filled and more!

  • Post-apocalyptic wishes and radioactive dreams:
One of this year's most anticipated games is Fallout 3, the follow-up to what's seen as one of the best and most innovative role playing games. Those eager Fallout fans got some exciting news this week. Not only is the game done (with bugs to fix) the game promises to be huge -- with some 200 possible endings. Wow. Now if only someone could tell me if the game has any same-sex couples, as Fallout 2 did...

  • Welcome to the Dollhouse, Helo:
Before the Writers' Guild went on strike, we were pretty excited over the news of a new Joss Whedon series. Now that Hollywood has gone back to work, they've begun casting the roles not played by Eliza Dushku. Battlestar Galactica hottie Tahmoh Penikett will be playng Dushku's romantic foil. Nice...

Maybe it's just the articles I read, but I haven't seen the usual talk of "We can work around his Battlestar Galactica commitments." Hurm, I wonder...

  • I'd buy a record from a group called Doctor and the Three Companions:
Oh, goody, the series four Doctor Who trailer hit the web this week. Check it out. I know this isn't a common opinion, but I'm looking forward to seeing the return of Donna. I like the idea of an everywoman companion who isn't immediately wowed by everything The Doctor does and the promise of a big companion meet-up is pretty exciting, as well. (Though why not throw Mickey into that mix, as well? And weren't we already promised that Captain Jack would be a part of the mix?) The fourth season arrives in the USA on the Sci-Fi Channel April 18, starting with the "Voyage of the Damned" special which co-stars dance diva Kylie Minogue.

  • Look who's honoring him now:
Four years ago, indie game developer Stardock introduced a strategy based around presidential politics, The Political Machine. The game was simple, but fun. It was like something you'd expect to play during a social studies class with the cool teacher. (So calling all you Oregon Trail fans...)

This week, the publisher announced it would be coming out with a new 2008 edition. Here's what I find amusing: Four years ago the screenshot for the media screen showed a pundit looking a lot like Bill O'Reilly. This time, their media screen looks like:

Notice the portrait in the corner? Heh.

    I really, really like

I really, really like Catherine Tate so whatever she does I'm gonna love it. I do think that the haters are being unduly harsh about the character of Donna, but I think it mainly stems from the fact that Tate is really only known for her comedic chops and therefore they don't think that she could pull off playing a full-realised character that the companions always are. Being a properly trained actress that Tate is (a graduate of the Central School of Speech and Drama no less ;)) I cannot wait for her to put those haters in their place when she shows them that she really can act just as well as, if not better than, Billie and Freema.

    OMG OMG OMG OMG fanboy

OMG OMG OMG OMG fanboy squeal for Fallout 3. I still have Fallout and Fallout 2 installed on my computer, and I play them through about once a year just for fun and every now and then still stumble on things I haven't seen before. Waiting for Fallout 3 has gone on so long I almost stopped thinking it would happen. So I'll get Spore and Fallout 3 hopefully sometime this year, so frickin sweet. I bet Fallout will have gay content, but now I'm wondering if Spore might, somehow. Can't wait to find out!

It wouldn't be a party without Jack

Jack is definitely back, if anyone was worried; they just hadn't begun filming his scenes when they put the trailer together. I saw some photos from the set recently, though, and it's a great big companion party. And Jack and Donna? Can you imagine the comedy potential between those two? If the writers miss there chance with that, I'm going to be very cross with someone.

    DOCTOR WHO START DATE

BBC's official Doctor Who site has announce that the series returns to British TV on April 5. So, like the second series of Torchwood, we're going to see the new series less than two weeks after they air in England (that's presuming that Sci-Fi sticks to tradition and airs both Voyage of the Damned and Partners in Crime back-to-back on the same night). That's a far cry from when new Who used to air on PBS months or even years after they aired on BBC. That's a sign of just how good Who is.

of course there is no word

of course there is no word about when the CBC will get around to airing either Doctor Who series 4 or Torchwood series 2. Thank god for internet downloads!

I have my doubts about Donna, she has some pretty big shoes to fill after Martha. Hopefully with so many companions all at once there won't be too much Rose. Was that a red UNIT cap I saw in the preview clip...cool...can't wait.

Seth and Jack together again--for the first time!

"It takes a village (to make Village People)"

Has anyone else seen John Barrowman as a film director in the new episode of "Hotel Babylon"?  He's really quite funny.  I mentioned this on another blog, and got no response.  By the way, Max Beesley has left the show and gone back to Robbie, but he's been replaced by none other than Lee Williams (Seth, for all you Kromer fans).  John and Lee together?  It's less explosive than you might think.
