IMHO "Brothers & Sisters" Episode 307: “Do You Believe in Magic?” I will if it makes Kitty disappear!
Last night's episode of Brothers & Sisters was the "Proposition 8" episode that was supposed to air the week before the election rather than the week after. Although, given how little it really had to say about Prop 8, I doubt the delay made much difference. And that's just part of the reason I'm giving the episode a side arrow. Find out why I didn't love it (and watch a clip) after the jump! When I first heard last Sunday night's episode was going to include some discussion of California's recently passed Proposition 8, I wasn't expecting the whole episode to be devoted to it, but given that the show includes network's television highest profile gay couple, I was expecting to at least see Kevin and Scotty discussing the issue, talking about whether they might want to get married some day, the unfairness of it all, etc. Instead, we got a brief scene at the beginning of Kevin pushing Senator McCallister to issue another statement opposing the proposition (he'd issued one months before), and then a scene at the end of Kevin explaining how he had deflected rumors of McCallister having an affair with California's female governor by "leaking" info that McCallister had actually met with the governor to discuss opposing Prop 8. Or something. It didn't really make sense. Here is the clip of McCallister confronting Kevin:
Frankly, that whole subplot didn't work for me (no newspaper would report an affair on such flimsy info) and I didn't much care about it. Nor did I care about whackjob Kitty causing their birthmother — a neurosurgeon — to dump her and Robert because she's just a neurotic nutball. But I loved the fact that she did dump them even after Kitty went back to plead her case. In fact, that's why the episode is getting a side arrow rather than a down arrow.

I Hated It.....
The Prop 8 bit at the
The Prop 8 bit at the begining was there for the sole purpose of using it as the twist at the end. It was just a plot prop. Nothing more.. Disappointing.
Lack of Scotty once again. Doubled Disappointing.
Over use of Justin/Rebecca. Tripled Disappionting.
A new show - Boring & Stupid!
The whole Prop8 issue sounds like "I dun wanna touch it so I'm just rubbing it the wrong way". What's the point of doing something if you don't do it right? It's like B&S has gone Ball-lesS this time. Or perhaps it's ABC? Wouldn't be too surprising following killing off Erica Hahn.
The whole episode just felt like a poof of non-magical air. Nothing special, just passing by.
Finally we're getting to see Ryan, who'll be played by Luke Grimes. But do the writers not have anything more to write about than digging up more consequences of passing sperms? How about a life for Saul? How about more on Julia? We don't need injections of new characters when the old ones are still not fully developed.
On the other hand, is Sarah getting into a 3some soon?
I endured a twofer
I had not watched the prior episode (Bakersfield) and thus wound up watch both last night. BORED TOO TEARS.
As for the Prop 8 stuff, what little argument they presented against it didn't make sense at all, especially coming from two lawyers.
Really poorly done.
:(
Agreed
Talk about blink-and-you'll
Just to add that it's
the adopting process....
Did Kitty and Robert ever say if they had a “type” of baby in mind? (er, it being a certain race?)
Speaking of birthmother....did kitty and Robert only want a baby from inside the U.S.??? Did the show ever clarify that?
Already ?
Re: Already?
No, Robert was just being a drama queen there.
Sadly for Kevin (and us, the viewers), it looks like this ridiculous storyline will continue for awhile. Because this show obviously needs Rob Lowe to have TWO storylines simultaneously.
And because, clearly, everyone was so heartbroken when his dreadfully dull Presidential campaign ended that we're now overjoyed they're keeping his political career alive.
(Yes, I think I may have just overdosed on sarcasm.)
I'm starting to actively hate this show
And that frustrates me to no end.
Does Rob Lowe have it in his contract that Robert must be a paragon of virtue and sobriety in contrast to the Walkers? I'm waiting impatiently for the day when somebody, heck, even the character-less Julia or the missing Scotty, takes him down a peg. Or just takes him down. Man, I hate his character. And not in a good "love to hate him" like Holly. I just hate Robert, he sucks the life out of every scene he's in, and seemingly enervates the entire show as well.
And this addressing of Prop 8 was utterly ridiculous. No Scotty; no real story for Tommy, Julia and Saul.
What's the point? Is there still a reason to watch this show?

Heavens! What would the GAY
Please don't OD on Sarcasm!
My Mom made a career out of it! Actually "we" all have!
But I was actually hoping that Nora and Ryan's dad would hit it off. But maybe I misinterpreted this show as a soap and not a platform for prop 8. Sorry you guys (in the generic) "lost" but I think that the courts will quash the "vote"!
Hold onto your knickers, Michael...
I have been one of this show's most vocal supporters (and one of Michael's biggest pests about it). I hated this episode, which is really nothing new this season.
After enduring a hopelessly mediocre second season (which I was willing to forgive due to the writers' strike), this season so far has been beyond soul suckingly terrible.
I thought there was some hope for some decent Kevin drama when he "caved" to his boss instead of standing up to him the way he told Scotty he was going to - did he lie to Scotty? I am sure Scotty would have asked how that went. WTF was up with that? It just died to play up Nora's garage sale...WHEEE!!
The whole Prop 8 thing was nonsense - a crappy little attempt to "address" the issue. And I don't buy the "schedule change" for a minute (not that it mattered for the miniscule effort they put into the message). ATAS sets the air date for the Emmy Awards very early every year - it is probably set already for next September and will be announced in January or February. ABC NEVER begins it's season before the Emmy Awards (major networks usually don't). The producers were not paying attention to the fact that they would not be debuting on September 21 due to the Emmys already being scheduled on that Sunday - long before they began writing any Season 3 episodes. It was ABC's year to host them, so there were no freaking surprises or scheduling changes there.
Regardless, it was a lousy episode in keeping with the theme of the season thus far, IMO. Enough of the let's watch Dave and Emily re-enact their off-screen romance for us. I don't even see them as characters anymore...simply actors that used to date off screen and who get paid to do it again for the cameras. Between that and the recycled bastard child plot (not to mention Senator Smug), I have nearly had it. Arrow way down from me.
This used to be my favorite show, but I am losing interest FAST.
