Who's Up For Some of HBO's "Big (Gay) Love"?

Entertainment Weekly's Michael Ausiello has been all over the news that closet-case Alby Grant (Matt Ross) on HBO's Big Love is finally going to get a love interest this season which kicks off Jan 10th. Turns out Alby is going to hook up with one Dale Tomasson (Benjamin Koldyke), a fellow Mormon who is appointed the head of the United Effort Brotherhood and who, like Alby, is undergoing reparative therapy. And it sounds as if that won't be working too well for either guy. Surprise!

Ausiello chatted with the show's creators/co-executive producers (and real life couple) Will Scheffer and Marc V. Olsen who had a little more to say about the storyline. Olsen tells Ausiello, “There’s a provocative nature to what we’re doing. It’s more than just the Mormon culture. We’re highlighting certain aspects of the church’s relationship with its gay members that I think, as the story unfolds, is going to cause no [small] amount of controversy.”

Hmm, that sounds awfully intriguing, no? Any ideas what that provocative nature might be? And what sort of controversy do you think the show is expecting? And why am I suddently having visions of Gay Vito on The Sopranos? 

Propostion 8 and the Church's out-sized influence in how the vote turned out, but I suspect they mean something other than that. As to how indepth this storyline gets remains to be seen.

IMDb currently shows Dale appearing in the show's second episode (airing Jan 17th) but not appearing again until the 6th episode. Now that could be inaccurate, but it could also indicate this is definitely going to be a much more minor storyline. Here's hoping that isn't the case.
