ABC's "Scrubs " gets even more bromantic – but in a serious way.
It's not exactly a secret that one of the best known bromances on TV (or anywhere else for that matter!) is the one between J.D. (Zach Braff) and Turk (Donald Faison) on ABC's Scrubs. Heck, the show even did a song called "Guy Love" celebrating the love between the two men. Everyone involved has been fearless in presenting the topic, with Turk and J.D. ending up in countless compromising positions and endless jokes being made about their love for each other. That continues in a two part episode "My Soul on Fire" starting on Wednesday night which includes J.D. and and a naked Turk ending up together in the ocean as J.D. tells Turk he loves his "chocolate bear".
Can you guess which famous sitcom those totem necklaces are from? The second episode, airing next Wednesday, takes a more serious turn as the show's sundry heterosexual couples struggle to express how they feel about each other. I don't want to give anything away, but when J.D. is trying to tell Elliot (Sarah Chalke) how much he loves her, let's just say the subject of Turk comes up in a serious way. And that's what makes this bromantic relationship work so well — the show has fun with it, but ultimately their love for each other is real and the show takes it seriously. And I think it's a positive thing for all men — gay and straight — to see two men being so physical and emotional with each other in a non-sexual way.
It gives straight guys permission to be in more touch with their emotions and, I believe, makes gay relationships seem that less alien to heterosexuals. Yes, it would be nice if the show included an actual, you know, gay character, but I still give it high marks nonetheless. And here are a couple of more pics (including the one above) from the April 29th episode "My Chief Concern". No, I have no idea why J.D. lost his pants and is being hugged by Turk.

That third picture...
...with Zach and J.D.
...with Zach and J.D. ending up in countless compromising positions...
By the way, do you mean Turk and J.D.? :)
Oops! Fixed.
Agreed!
I definitely agree
that there has been a noticeable lack of actual gay characters on Scrubs, and I'm hoping that they rectify that before Sacred Heart shuts down for good. I do have to note that one episode did include a gay male interracial couple, but there didn't seem to be much point other than to remind JD and Turk (and the audience) that the only difference between the two couples was that JD and Turk don't actually have sex with each other.
As for the totem necklaces - could those possibly be left over from the 60s, when similar necklaces made an appearance on Gilligan's Island?
Scrubs
Aw, this is a show I don't watch often enough.
Re: Totem necklaces. Maybe it is Gilligan's Island. For some reason, my head was screaming Brady Bunch.
BB
I vote for Brady Bunch as well
And the answer is ...
The Only show that does it better.
