Adam Lambert isn't the only gay Idol: Check out "Canadian Idol" Theo Tams' new video!

With American Idol's Adam Lambert (deservedly) sucking up most of the media oxygen right now, it would be easy — and unfortunate — to overlook the fact that there is another gay Idol out there. But this one has not only already won, but also just released the first single off his new album. His name is Theo Tams (pictured above) and he won the sixth season of CTV's Canadian Idol. And he did it as an out gay man. 

Tam's first album, Give it All Away bows May 19th and his first single "Lazy Lovers" got a sneak release last Friday and you can watch it here on Tam's official website.  In case, it's geoblocked for some folks, I got some screencaps and you might be especially interested as it includes a gay male couple amongst the four couples shown.

The theme of the song is pretty much summed up in the title and video, which shows an assortment of couples riding in a taxi cab as they either fight or take each other for granted.

I can't believe you're bringing that up again! I've apologized a 100 times!

But fear not, our happy couple soon settles their differences thanks in part to ...

... a cloudburst in their taxi that leaves them soaking wet. Um, okay.

I'm not really sure what's up with the rain in the cab, but I do know I like the song a great deal and am looking forward to hearing Tam's entire album. Just for fun here is a little clip of Theo in the recording studio.

    Well you won't be the only one voting for him then.  I'll be right along side you sending in my votes as well.

    Theo is simply amazing.  I love this song and video, but his entire album ("Give It All Away") is fantastic.  He's got an incredible voice and shows it off nicely on the album, but he's also helped to write some great songs for it too.  He has some of those powerful ballads that he does so well (the man interprets a love song like very few do), but it also has some excellent upbeat rocking songs on it too.

    He is a great singer, a talented musician and songwriter, and a warm and friendly guy - a total pleasure to meet.

    We Canadians are VERY proud of Theo!!

    We had a lesbian winner in season 2 in the German version of "idol" who knowadays can be seen performing on gay prides rather than on TV or in the charts. But in season 4 Mark Medlock won, an openly gay man who still is very succesfull. I don't like him, don't like his music but he is the only one who made a real carrer out of this TV show.  The biggest differnce between Germany and Canada is that even if everybody knows he is gay all his videos show him on a boat or on a beach or on a cliff with women in bikinis. Not even a gay hint somewhere in the background.

    ... we've had at least one openly LGBT person in the top ten of EVERY season so far! S1: Daniel  (+ Juliette, if her affair with Lucy counts :p);  S2: Elli, Lory; S3: Didi; S4: Mark; S5: Fady; S6: Benny.

     

    I actually think, in an international comparison... we kinda rock :D

     

    I completely agree about Mark, though, he annoys me SO MUCH. He's Bohlen's little pet, which is the only reason he's still successful.

    I love Theo! I really hope his record is gonna be released internationally at one point.. I NEED IT! xD

    Love this video, too. LOL about the rain in the taxi, though... someone has a leaky roof, huh? :p

     

    Actually, the video on his official page is not geo-blocked for me (I'm in Germany), but his youtube account is!

    The song is good and the music video is very cute.

    I love the fact that Theo is not afraid to be who he is. I admire him for that. He is very talented too. He is by far the best contestant Canadian Idol has ever seen!

    His first post-Idol winning single "Sing" (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gP85MzpuzrY) was better than the current new one but again, it was nice to see him be out during the competition and win. (He totally deserved to too)

    So he is gay? I guess there is something to be said for "gaydar," I watched an episode of the show (an episode before the one where he mentioned singing a song to a guy he dated) and thought he was gay.

    I had never watched a single full episode of Canadian or American Idol and then they got me hooked last season by having a David Bowie themed episode. And after watching that episode I felt the need to make sure the person who won had not butchered their Bowie song. (Yes, I was happy with who won.)

    Holy crap I find that man (Theo) attractive.

    Is it sad that I was a little pissed off that the two guys NEVER MADE OUT? Srsly, the straight couple did, why couldn't the gay couple? Especially since they were quite attractive.
