Bravo's Madison Hildebrand Updates Facebook Status From Polyamorous to Gay

Bravo's Million Dollar Listing falls somewhere between the network's best shows — Top Chef, the old Project Runway — and their worst — NYC Prep, Miami Social — but in last night's episode, Madison Hildebrand, the show's most appealing  character, decided to come out. Again. Sort of.

When we interviewed Madison back in 2008, he defined his sexuality as being polyamorous, saying he was interested in both men and women:

...the word I have chosen to use as far as sexuality goes is polyamorous, and I am really trying to stay away from being in one particular category one way or the other. I’m very open. I’m open-minded. I really connect to energies. I still have encounters with women and I’m interested in dating men and/or a woman. It doesn’t really matter to me. If the energy feels right and it’s safe and it’s comfortable, I’m open to that.

Technically, polyamory is having intimate relationships with more than one person at a time with all involved being aware of the others. I suspect Madison really meant bisexuality as on the show he's never discussed seeing more than one person. Or maybe not. Either way it doesn't matter as all that changed on last night's episode.

Asked to participate in Adam Bourska's NOH8 photo shoot, Madison is inspired to reflect on his personal life. As he states on his Bravo blog

Polyamorous - well, maybe in the future, but for now I am feeling gay. Haha - pun intended. When I was asked to participate in the NOH8 Campaign it inevitably made me reflect on myself, my sexuality, and my business. Ultimately, my business and personal life are commingled, but I am at choice to reveal certain depths of myself. This episode I decided to come all out. It is a beautiful thing. It feels good and I feel fortunate to have the television program as an opportunity to reveal natural emotions and feelings. I think it it can help others who feel stuck or afraid to be more courageous and engage their feelings.

During the episode, he goes through a bit of agonizing about participating in the campaign as he's worried about being so open and how that might affect his business. Given that he'd already posed for Playgirl and publicly discussed being polyamorous (which seems much more risky and brave than coming out as a gay man) I didn't quite get his trepidation.

No matter either way; welcome to the officially out club, Madison!
