Don Imus and Roseanne Barr. Oy!

John Aravosis over at Americablog has a post about Don Imus and his ongoing comedic shtick that is pretty much offensive to everyone. In case you missed it, Imus landed in hot water this week for his shockingly racist comments about a female basketball team (for which he was suspended for two weeks). In the clip (which is below the fold), Imus and his producer, who is pretending to be Cardinal Egan, joke about beating up "faggots", Anderson Cooper "taking it up the poop chute", wishing a sissy on America Idol would be the victim of a hate crime and more. Boy, it must be hard to come up with such fresh, clever jokes. No wonder Imus earns millions of dollars every year!

As John points out, this is hardly the first time Imus' has aired nasty "jokes" about African-Americans, Jews, gays, womens, and, well, pretty much everyone else you can insult. Imus usually doesn't make the comments himself, but has others on his show offer them up so Imus can smirk and pretend to protest. Yes, Imus' show is supposedly comedy and he is exercising his right to free speech, but that doesn't mean WFAN and Westwood One are obligated to air the garbage, something they clearly recognize given their suspension of Imus. Here is hoping they exercise their right to throw him out the door. They won't, of course, but a guy can dream, can't he?

As long as we're talking about celebrities making dumb statements, the usually pro-gay Roseanne Barr recently opened her trap on a radio show and said some pretty dumb things. According to Ms. Barr:

Never once in my 54 years have I ever once heard a gay or lesbian person who’s politically active say one thing about anything that was not about them. They don’t care about minimum wage, they don’t care about any other group other than their own self because you know, some people say being gay and lesbian is a totally narcissistic thing and sometimes I wonder.

I’ve never heard any of them say anything except for “accept me ‘cause I’m gay.”
It’s just, it’s screwed. It’s no different than the evangelicals, it’s the same mindset. They want you to accept Jesus and you guys want us to all believe it’s ok to be gay. And a lot of us, a lot of them, I do, I don’t give a damn who anybody has sex with, as long as they’re not underage and an animal. I don’t give a damn, it’s none of my damn business. I’m just sick of all the divisiveness, it’s not getting any of us anywhere.

Roseanne has never struck me as the most together person and this kind of nonsense just confirms it. The comments are just so dumb they don't even warrant refutation. I guess this is what happens when one no longer has a career and too much time on their hands.
