Watch and Discuss "Emmerdale": Better to be a Gay-Basher Than be Gay

On this episode of Emmerdale, poor Jackson learns that if Aaron doesn't answer his cellphone, maybe he should take the hint. And Paddy learns that some people think it's better to be a gay-basher than to be gay. Sad...

Do you think Paddy must be getting close to the point of throwing up his hands and walking away from Aaron entirely? I mean there is only so much one can take. Speaking of which, I'm glad Aaron got hauled off to jail as his attitude toward Paddy, and now Jackson, was getting a wee bit hard to take. He needed something to happen to him to force the issue and it looks like being arrested is going to do just that.

And how sad was it to see Aaron tell Paddy it is better to be seen as a violent, hateful person rather than as a "queer." It's a cliche to say that someone who has problems with gay people might just be gay themselves, but Emmerdale is doing a rather good job of demonstrating just how that comes to pass. And how about Paddy pointing out the irony of Aaron not wanting to draw attention to himself, yet doing just that by wildly overreacting. Just another way the closet can warp a person.

As always, Danny Miller as Aaron and Dominic Brunt as Paddy really carry these scenes. And I've yet to mention Marc Silcock who plays Jackson, but he's also doing a very credible job as a gay man comfortable with himself and trying to help Aaron.

Oh, and how much fun is it to see James Sutton from Hollyoaks? We miss you, James!
