Forbidden Love clip update: Before there was Ollian
I'm not sure how many folks might remember the first time I wrote about Ollian in my BEST.GAY.WEEK.EVER column quite a few weeks back, but I did so prompted by this kiss between the two yet-to-be lovers. Unfortunately, back then I only had the German clip to go on to figure out exactly what was going on, but now, thanks to of The Gays of Daytime as well as Nanna who does the actual subtitles, we're able to present you with the story that got us to the hotness that is known as Ollian. In the clips after the jump, you'll see that the gay, er, "bisexual" Olli sublimated his attraction to Olli in a rather inappropriate way. Then he confessed his attraction to Christian in an equally poorly timed way. (I don't know about you, but I wouldn't tell a homophobic straight guy whom I was crushing on that I was into him while he was enraged and wearing a pair of boxing gloves. Not what I'd call a good decision making process there.) This being a good soapy soap opera, there naturally have to be a lot of confrontations and secrets revealed.
< It's interesting to look back and be reminded that only a few weeks ago Christian identified as straight. Has he just fallen for Olli and isn't really into guys? Is he bisexual? Schwul? (That's German for "gay". Hey, I had to show that off!) I know one of the big fears over Nuke on As the World Turns was that Noah was going to revert back to being straight, but I think the show has made it pretty clear that won't be happening. But will it happen to Christian? And if it does, is that realistic? In my life, I've known maybe two guys who went from men back to women, one because he simply loathed the gay community, the other because he was bi and wanted kids (this was fifteen years ago). If that does happen here, I'm curious how folks will react. Given that the show has had numerous other gay storylines, they've probably earned the right to have that happen. But for us Americans who just discovered the show, that storyline will beißen Sie den großen. BTW, there are a couple of NSFW words, so beware! I'm not so sure how straight Christian has been before Olli. He sure has been homophobic, but his reaction when he saw Olli making out with a guy on the couch looked suspiciously like jealousy to me. And why should a straight guy who's sure about his sexuality be afraid of a gay/bi man giving him a massage?
Christian and Olli also came very close to each other when they went to the gym, but when Christian learned about Olli being gay he didn't want to go to that gym anymore. And ever since that camping trip Christian was much closer to Olli then to Coco. She even complained about it.
But basically, I hate the idea of a gay man turning a straight man gay by kissing him. Even though we might all fantasize about it some time in our lifes, it just doesn't happen.
The clips from the camping trip with subtitles should be up soon if I understood it right. You should definitely check them out. There were some nice Brokeback Mountain moments in them.

Just watched the VL camping episodes again last night
I gotta admit, I was chuckling to myself when the writers of VL so obviously were drawing inspiration from Brokeback Mountain when Christian & Olli were huddled around the campfire. From the image to the music...total Brokeback. Heh. I thought it was very sweetly made, copy though it was.
Btw, Nanna, do you know which episode Olli actually tells Christian that he has a crush on him? Was that first "unwanted" kiss on Christian in the gym locker room the first admission? I was under the impression that Olli actually told Christian previously that he had feelings for him.

"Will beissen Sie den grossen" - I guess it means 'To bite the big one' - to die, to get killed, or simply - to suck terribly! ;o)
Dane I only have the German version, but these are two scenes (after the kiss in the gym locker room) of the moment when Olli admits to Christian that he has fallen for him.

Well, the above clip - a part from the obvious BBM references in it (scenery, mountain-talk, plaid shirt, cowboy hat, tent etc. - all that is missing are the sheep *lol*), Gregor quotes from the novel "Naked Lunch" by gay writer William S. Burroughs. This all can't be a coincidence!
Sidenot - through this whole scene, it seems like Thore can hardly hold back laughing out loud. To me it seems as if he has the giggles and tries to hold back the whole time. Funny.
In the recent GIGA interview Thore and Jo participated in (which, a part from the female presenter, wasn't so bad after all!), they said they usually only get to know their character's story development 3 weeks in advance. But when I watch the above clip (from July 2007), I can't but think that the writers and possibly Thore, knew already then, that Christian would 'turn gay'. Also, to have Jo back on the soap it takes a few weeks (if not more) I'm assuming. I mean for all we know, Jo was contacted to come back to VL months before he actually did. He must have had other commitments etc. I'm sure the gay storyline for Christian was long in the making and I can't believe Thore was only told 3 weeks before, that they planned to hook Christian up with new arrival Olli.
Me again, obsessing about details.

jUde, I have to agree with you...I can't believe Thore only knew 3 weeks before that he would be having a relationship with Olli. I'm sure he was told of this pending love story months ago.
I loved the camping episode...and it was so in your face Brokeback. But I think it's during this episode that Olli and Christian start to grow a lot closer. They start off arguing at the begining of the trip, then end up talking personally around the campfire, with Christian opening up more to Olli.
And Micheal...I had to LOL at your comment regarding the bad timing on Olli's part in confessing his love for Christian, who is at the gym in his boxing gloves and already in a total rage over the Coco kiss. I guess when you have that huge crush on someone, you are willing to take that chance of some serious GBH being enflicted upon you. But, it was worth taking that chance since Christian couldn't get that kiss out of his head, and it helped result in the relationship we have now.

I spent the weekend watching all of Nanna's Ollian clips on Youtube, from Olli's return to the latest episode. I am now fully caught up on the back story and I have to say, it's only made me that much more obsessed with this story line.
Although it did make me a little confused as to why Christian is so worried about Gregor's reaction. In the clips where everyone thinks Christian is being homophobic, Gregor actually tells his brother that he's had sex with men before just to see if Christian actually is homophobic and then he calls him on it. And then after Olli kisses Christian, there is a scene where a patron at No Limits hits on Gregor and he handles it like he should, as though it's no big deal.
So is Christian's concern because Gregor has been so sex-crazed since breaking up with Sarah? Or is it really just a projection of his own insecurity?
Either way...I'm obsessed. And though everyone seems to be gaga over Thore, Jo makes my heart skip a beat, he is so beautiful.

That is exactly what I did over the weekend :-)
Living in Germany I follow this show everyday, but as it is typical with daytime soaps, you only look forward, rarely back, cause you can't buy DVD's and it is too much material to record. So thanks to youtube and Nanna that one has the unusual opportunity to recapture some of the favourite moments of this show!
I suppose it may be a mixture of both, but subconsciously more the latter. As most of us know, coming out can be tough and weird also for yourself. I guess Christian is in the status where he feels now comfortable within his first gay relationship, but not yet being recognized and recognizing himself as a gay man.
