"Forbidden Love" video clip update: Two Boys in Love
First off, there wasn't even supposed to be any Ollian scenes on Forbidden Love and then we got so many kisses it was actually hard to keep track of them.
Olli went out grocery shopping and brought back Christian's favorite yogurt which led to a round of kissy-face and then some teasing about Christian's working with hot sports students. Olli teases that Christian's being closeted at work will keep him from being hit on by those student.
After that, their roommate bribes them to spend the evening away from home so she can have a hot date, but when they come home later with some bubbly to have their own hot date on the couch they find her sobbing in teh dark. You'll find the clip after the jump! (And thanks to The Gays of Daytime and Nanna for the hard work of giving us Yanks something so good to watch!
I find two things great about this particular segment. First, the way the show is portraying Olli and Christian as two guys in love is so fun and light-hearted that I find it truly refreshing. Watching how they playfully interact, teasing each other, grabbing and kissing like a couple of goofy schoolkids is just great. Nothing against coming out storylines and accepting speeches from friends and families, but I think just seeing two guys in love behaving so naturally is as important as those coming out stories. It's so normalizing without making a big deal out of it. Secondly, I love that they guys are involved in their roommates life as well and don't exist in some gay bubble where we hardly ever see other straight people. I wrote yesterday about how easy it is for gay characters to just disappear, but by keeping Ollian involved in other storylines gives them more to do than just be gay.

Odds of you even seeing this at this point are slim, but what the hell - it's "LDN" by Lily Allen. Unusual choice - on the one hand, the overtone of the song is bright and peppy and cheerful "Oh why, oh why, would I wanna be anywhere else?", which might have been what they were going for...on the other hand, the song proper is about things being nice on the surface and rotten underneath " When you look with your eyes, everything seems nice.But if you look twice, you can see it's all lies." Which suggests trouble. Or there's option (c), that I'm a crazy person who's watched all these clips far too often and is now reading multiple levels of subtext into a scene where the music producer thought "Random happy song, this'll do!".
This may well be my favourite clip of all - it's a toss-up for the cutest moments between Olli tossing the shopping onto the fridge, missing, trying again, missing and then giving up and just dancing off; the multi-kiss; and possibly my favourite, Christian making a "concerned face" at Judith's problems while still bopping along to the music. So awesome!

You are right, it's quite old. Thore talks about Christian, who has just hooked up with Coco. He says finally did Christian find his true love *clearthroat* and that they are/should be happy together for a while (especially Christian deserves some hapiness, being the fact that so far his life has been quite catastrophic and sad - don't ask me what happened, I don't know). He says further about Coco, that she is much less complicated than Nico [btw, Nico was a girl]. I haven't seen all these previous episodes, but Nico and Coco were best friends apparently - that friendship ended I assume, when Coco started dating Christian. The journalist wants to know if Thore would ever do such a thing [what a sh** question]! Of course Thore says no! Totally taboo! Never would he get involved with his best male friend's best female friend.. if you know what I mean. Thore hesitated a bit before saying that - probably in order not to get mixed up.. 'die Freundin von meinem besten Freund'.. [and not 'der Freund meiner besten Freundin'.. *grin*]. Aaanyway...
Thore says Christian never realized that Coco was madly in love with him. Apparently Christian was all in a dither and it took him some time to notice Coco.. [whatevva.. it's over, so we don't really care, do we? *lol*].
Thore has joined the VL cast in November 2006. The journalist wants to know if he's already integrated into the group with his co-stars, or whether he is still trying to find his marks. He says, 'Yes, I'm totally integrated' and he is best friends with Jo and they are dating since January 2008. No, I'm making this up, of course! What he really says is that after 7 months (so we know the interview is from around May 2007) of playing the character Christian he has started to have some routine in his work and is getting to know his character. He says it's much easier now, as he was quite nervous at the beginning. *duh*
Apparently his dayjob is not sufficient. He has started with a second job as a waiter (?!) in his sister's new restaurant (near Cologne - I didn't get the name of the city..'Bettburg'? about 25km away from Cologne - the name of the restaurant "Vis-à-Vis-no"??). His sister needs the help at the bar and Thore helps.. He says he likes it. He used to job as a waiter when he was younger in order to earn some money. Same job as in the "NoLimits" bar from VL.
That's it.
It doesn't sound as if Thore was already aware of the fact that his character would be falling head over heels in love with another man. He says Christian has thus finally found his big love with Coco and they are hopefully going to be happy and stay together for a while.... Little did he know!

Wow. So, Christian was involved with two girls, and then Olli. How awesome is it that Thore plays the character so well that I really do believe Christian has fallen in love with Olli. Sexual labels be damned. I guess Christian just fell in love with Olli and that was that!

BTW, do German actors work more in film, TV or both? Unlike here in the U.S., in some countries, it's not really a big deal for actors to work in different media such as TV and film simultaneously, so I'm wondering if that's the case with Germany. I ask because I wonder whether Thore would want to leave VL to work on film or can he do both?
At any rate, I hope Ollian sticks around. They're the best love story airing on the planet right now as far as I can tell.

You know, I don't know. I think it's like everywhere else. Some actors are 'confined' a lifetime to TV roles others manage to juggle both. I'm not into German television a lot. I have only briefly lived in Germany. Here in Belgium we have (I) have 2 German channels which I tend to watch.. never.. (except for VL, natürlich!). I know about a few German actors but not much more than what's on the net.
Maybe Wolfie and ichglotzutube can help.

you really have to see that inteview in the context of taking place relatively short after thore arrived as christian on VL, so i think that YES, maybe he wasn't completely aware of the gay lovestory yet (or he was and simply wasn't able to tell anything yet).
jo weil returned as olli in november 2007 (on air), which would most likely mean he rejoined the cast around august/ september 2007 (given the usual 3 months it takes between filiming and airing).

It must have been back in the late 90's or even very early 2000's, but I have very vivid memories of Tom & Ulli making out in front of a fireplace... Maybe Wolfi remembers the scene?
Francesca, I remember that storyline too of course! (ehm, your link is not clickable..)! Ah that fireplace scene! It was in 2000/2001! I watched it then and was totally smitten by Kay Böger (Tom)! Some of the the VL Forum folk even went to visit the place where parts of the soap is being filmed and we went to see Kay Böger (and other actors) talk about the show and his character. It was quite a funny moment to meet him I remember!
I must admit, I prefer Christian and Olli.. I didn't care for Ulli (no joke, you are right)at the time, nor Olli (when he was with Tom). But Olli has matured, so all is well! ;o)

i kinda did not see when in the previous episode that christian wants the whole world to know how much 'fun' he has with olli... fun? what fun? all i can see is that while he does have fun with olli when their making love (or when they are naked together), he is so much more uptight when we see them just together... so when he told that line to judith i kinda did not believe him... even when he and olli were in the couch (in the last episode) - while they are so sweet together, you can see the sadness in christian's eyes...
but now!!!!! we all now see that he is having soooooo much fun with olli... he was never - NEVER - this happy with coco.... even though when he was in a "normal" relationship with coco he was so uptight... that's why i though he has always been like this... but now VL has shown these two guys together in one ordinary day - and there you can clearly see that christian is GENUINELY HAPPY!!!

You're Just In Love
Ollian in Love
There's just no comparison here. Two young men that have just fallen in love would act exactly like this. They only had to make the big dramatic declaration of their love for each other once because ever since they've been showing how they feel. Unlike Nuke, who constantly profess their love and then do everything in their power to avoid a relationship.
Today was great because it was really just an adjunct to Judith's story. There was no big, special point to Ollian being playful and loving together other than the fact that they're Judith's roomates and friends and their presence in that apartment was something that needed to be fit into today's story. That it was written with them in such a fun and romantic way was just beautiful.

since i can't rate you,Now i can rate again! i will say that i agree with alot of what you said.like Michael also said, this show normalizes the relationship as no big deal..it's not like "OMG THESE ARE TWO MEN...KISSING...SHOCK FACTOR!" - - it's there, but that's it. they don't make it a "gay thing" where one of them may freak out for fear of being caught or whatnot.

^ not just two young men. ANY new young, and in love couple would be like that. That's what I like about this show and even a show like B&S doesn't make a huge thing out of kevin being gay or being with another man. "it is what it is. deal with it" seems to be their message that they're getting across.

I wasn't expecting to see
I wasn't expecting to see this sweet couple until April 24th, so what a treat to see them in today's episode. And like others have stated, their relationship seems natural. The constant kissing, touching, smiling at each other and wanting to be together all the time, is exactly how a couple who have just fallen in love with each other would act. I know I keep repeating myself, but i'm just loving this storyline.

What a wonderful surprise tonight after work to find there's a new Ollian clip (thank you, Nanna & IvanIV, yet again!!!).
Even in supporting scenes, Ollian are awesome. So many kisses in so very little screen time. Simply beautiful!
I also really like how this show integrates the various characters so naturally. All too frequently in ATWT, the characters in the various storylines might as well be living in different cities or be on different shows for all the interaction they seem to have with each other.

Unexpected Ollian Scenes
When I first clicked on AfterElton this morning, I was pleasantly surprised to see that Ollian had made an appearance on their first class soap. I wasn't expecting anything until late next week per the previous statements.
Their kissy-kissy and constantly touching each other is so refreshing compared to what we here in the states have to settle for. As if no one knew, the dreaded state of affairs with Nuke. I have complained enough about that disaster, but I am done. No amount of overhaul can save this bore. It's about halfway to the bottom of the Snyderfork Ranch pond now with only inches until it totally sinks.

I have fallen in love with these two.
Last night thanks to YouTube I watched all the episodes with English Sub-titles...my high school German just wasn't making it. I fell in love with Olli and Christian and this storyline. "Forbidden Love" has everything that "the other American soap" (do I need to mention it - I may puke) has not. Well defined characters, great storyline, well written scripts, forward moving story and realistic romantic scenes between Olli and Christian. Why do we Americans have to be so backward about gay men in love. It's 2008. It's time for Americans to grow up and be adults about all lifestyles and accept everyone as they are.

...it just cracks me up to read this! :-) How proud the authors must be, cause none of the above are necessarily attributes the average GERMAN viewer would bestow on the show. It makes me wonder: Is it REALLY that good (I tend to think yes, it is)? Or does most of the fascination stem from the fact that no US channel (including a certain gay cable channel I might mention) shows us gay love in such a care-free, positive attitude with two attractive and completely committed to their characters actors like Jo and Thore?

VL deserves it....
i do have to agree that the lack of gay visibility in any medium (maybe except theater) really brought about all the superfluous praises VL is receiving here, in youtube, and in blogs from around the world. but i do think VL deserves all these praises because we do have to consider that this is a soap opera... and as i see from comments even from other european countries that soaps are not quite intelligent programing... it would be so unfair to compare a soap opera from a masterpiece televison show on primetime like six feet under or frasier or the sopranos.... it is quite refreshing to see such a storyline with such real human emotions in a (soap) world riddled with campy characters and situations and moronic plots and ridiculous twists.. am not saying every soap shows are... but we have to admit... generally - they do tend to be (for a lack of a better,kinder word) - stupid.
It is better, but how should the average German viewer know?

I guess much of the fascination comes from a gay story, that is very well depicted and acted and is not to be found in US daytime TV and unfortunately won't be in the near future.
Though also IMO VL is way superior to the American daily soaps I know concerning all production values as mentioned here several times.
Back in the 80's we didn' t have any German daily soap and I loved to watch that format coming to us from the US (General Hospital, Santa Barbara, The Guiding Light, The Bold an the Beautiful)
Then in the beginning of the 90's GZSZ, Unter Uns, Marienhof and Verbotene Liebe started at the same level, but in a much more realistic setting than their American models. Though from the very beginning VL started at a higher production level as it was the ARD flagship-soap and the only one with location shootings in Dusseldorf and Cologne and Schloss Friedenau.
The American soaps in Germany declined and only The Bold and the Beautiful survived.
But the German soaps developed in a different way during the last 15 years. I remember Roland Pfaus (who played in VL, now Marienhof) said in an interview how the pace of the stories got faster and faster through the years. German viewers got used to that and get very nervous nowadays when a story takes too long.
But when you watch The Bold and the Beautiful (the only US soap which is still broadcasted in Germany) you don't know if you should grin or get agitated.
It is like back in the 80's where a whole epiosode was like: something happened and Brooke told Rich. Rich told Stephanie. She told Eric. Eric told Thorne. End of the episode. Hilarious. When you didn't follow it for three weeks. No problem. Cause nothing really happend. The way someone stated it for the Nuke-story: much talking, little actions.
So IMO Germans are not aware of the quality of their daytime soaps on an international standard (surely not any - I don't follow them all), because soaps in general and everywhere do not have a high quality image - and who watches The Bold and the Beautiful at 11.15 a.m. as a comparison? [which might has even sort of a cult status, because of being hilariously draggy, campy and non-realistic, which you can also enjoy, but it is harder to sympathize and and to identify with the characters]

* Edit: ok, I just viewed a YouTube video of Jo Weil (from November 07). The quality is veeery bad and it doesn't say anything about Olli's relationships in VL, but he does say at some point that his next holiday plans for the summer 2008 will be a big solo trip through Canada. Now, this is an interview from when he was all new to VL (after 5 years of absence). Thore above in his interview says that his preferred holiday spots are the North and it looks like he added Canada last in his list. I know I'm reading WAY to much into this, but I tend to believe that Jo's trip through Canada next summer, won't be so much a solo trip. ...
Also, I think the above interview with Thore may date from early 2008 as he replies to question 3 that he will have joined the VL cast two years ago in September 2008. If the interview took place back in the autumn of 2007, he would have formulated his response differently ('I have joined the cast a little over a year ago' or something). The way he says it, sounds like he's closer to two years of joining VL. And since he joined in autumn 2006, I'd say the interview took place in early 2008. This to say that him an Jo were already deep in the middle of taping their hot scenes together, when Thore was interviewed. Hence my Canada-comment above...
Okay, I'll stop editing my own post now and will stop obsessing about Thore.......

Okay, don't ask my why I found this on YouTube, but it's rather peculiar..
Most of the time you see sexy shirtless Andreas Jancke (Gregor in VL). The other guy in the boxing gear is Leonard - they are both in love with Sarah (the red-haired girl in the video). It's nice to look at even when you don't speak German.
But then.. watch what happens after 01:02 minute of the clip... *LMHO*!! It's repeated during the whole video.

Lucky Miriam?
Well, she's not really lucky as regards Christian. Despite her best coquette act, and her wearing a t-shirt that said "Cherry Valley" (A blatant invitation if ever I've seen one! Trollop!) on their date, she was never anything more than Christian's beard. He spent the whole night fixated on Olli and how to get Rick off of him. And despite Miriam's suggestive attire and attitude, it was Olli that Christian ended up banging afterwards.
You know it's bad when a guy pleads that he has a headache and wants to call it a night.
However, it is my understanding that she will have her chance with the oh-so-luscious Gregor, who is far more than just a consolation prize as far as I'm concerned. So I guess she's lucky after all.
