Homophobic radio hosts use gay slurs, throw bisexual musician out

GLAAD just issued a press release about a CBS-owned radio station WFNY 92.3 which invited a local band named A Brief Smile (pictured below) onto their show only to proceed to hurl anti-gay slurs at the band's bisexual bassist. Apparently bassist John Carnes said some not so nice things about The Doghouse hosted by Jeff Vandergrift and Dan Lay who responded by calling him "Fag Number 1" and asked "How many badges of honor do you have in your colon?" Eventually they kicked him out of the studio while telling him his "sexuality makes him a bitch."

But according to the Doghouse Blog (since removed), Vandergrift's comments had nothing to do with Carnes' sexuality and the non-homophobic host only wanted to communicate the bassist was "dorky".

Hmm, does that means Carnes' "badged colon" is dorky too?

(To read more about Carnes' dorky sexuality and to complain to WFNY click read more.)

No one is buying the station's lame excuses and after making repeated phone calls GLAAD finally reached WFNY's Program Director John Mainelli (this was after the receptionist repeatedly hung up on GLAAD telling them to "stop calling"). Mainelli did finally call back, but not to apologize. He defended the homophobia and even called the segment comedy.

Gosh, it sounds hilarious to me. Maybe Wild Hogs sponsors the show?

GLAAD suggests that if you aren't laughing either it might be a good idea to drop the station a line. They can be reached at:

Shame on Them

People are so keeny aware that this language is offensive and derogatory that they will use it then try to cover it up like Ann Coulter and Billy Packer.  They need to be called on it and treated appropriately.

Oxymoron anyone?

Uhhh, you're not homophobic? Are you serious? That's beside the point though. What you are is a coward; It's so easy to spread hate anonymously. Oh, and our ways aren't perverted because gay people flaunt as much as straight people do. Yeah, my name's Kevin, Mr. Anonymous.

I've read a lot of forums especially about radio disc jokeys using foul language racial slurs etc and honestly i never read a thread where so many people were cursing. I personal can care less but just shows that deep down a lot of people are ready to flip at ta moments notice. The last time you heard me cursing was 2 weeks ago, I call in to a local station to just throw in my two cents and bs with the DJ's who are pretty cool people and local next thing i know im winning madonna tickets london UK here i come.

It's time to repeal the first amendment

Too many people are getting away with hate-speech.

Repeal the 1st amendment?

I hope you are being sarcastic to make a point, Anonymous. Of course, the 1st amendment doesn't really apply here.... yet, since the government is not (yet) the one trying to punish people for talking, but if this culture of "demanding the right to not be offended" persists, I imagine it will come to that. The thought police are on the way!

Their show got cancelled.

Thank God that their show got cancelled. They laughed at people. In their show, they phoned Chinese take-out. They yelled at Chinese receptionists, laughed at the English level, cursed them, and said dirty and nasty words. So, they got complainted and fired. It is good to be fired! Their show was racism. They are mean, arrogance and stupid. Please hire some more higher class people next time. Otherwise, the next generation would become morons like them. In Chinese web site, the taked-out conversation was shown in details. Chinese people should come to sue CBS and them. Their producer should control these nuts on the air.

Dogs' Sons

It's very clear that the hosts' mothers got f***ed by ugly dogs, so they came to the world! They just made me so sick!

It's not the dogs, it's the CBS

It's not the first time, or first several times that the two CBS hosts spitting out racial slurs on-air, and they get away with it every time. You really can't tell a half hearted prank from a bona fide racism. The only solution will be to bring CBS to justice.

the word

My skin tone, ethnicity or sexual preference doesn't matter in the following statement: COMEDY IS NOT HATE! Lighten up. I never liked Imus but I stand for his right to be a jerk. The calling for firings by special interest groups will only lead to further separation of the races. Special interest groups are the most racist organizations because they only care or fight for what affects their group. This is AMERICA Jack and we were founded on the basic human right of freedom of speech and religion. Other countries may oppress their public, but don't bring that here. People are paying attention and will take action if you continue to dilute the American way. Now I am not advocating hate speech, which this clearly wasn't. I am merely stating that we as Americans have the right to say what we want no matter how stupid. And yes you have the right to get offended. You also have the right to not listen to the words. I don't like soft dramas about housewives, you know what? I don't watch them. All these groups are trying to do is force people to conform to their idea of what is offensive and what is not. What is offensive and what is not is in the mind of the individual and people are smart enough to decide what is hate filled and what is not. THIS IS JUST A WAY FOR THESE ORGANIZATIONS TO GAIN SOME PUBLICITY. If anyone bothered to do their homework, you would have found out that JV's wife IS ASIAN. It totally takes away your credibility when you fail to recognize this fact and the fact that this was a joke. Last time I checked jokes were legal, or maybe the outlawing of comedy is what they're after. Well then they can move to a country that censors everything and be happy if that is what they want. Maybe these words I have written will get through to them. Maybe they'll realize that by shutting shows down you are ruining the lives of all those working on the show, directly taking food from their families. This is obviously not a concern of theirs, the only concern seems to be gaining publicity for their organizations. RB
