Fox's John Gibson on Heath Ledger Take Two: He's the Victim

Anyone who thought John Gibson would take time out of his radio show to apologize for his callous comments about Heath Ledger, better think again. In fact, John explains there is a "war against Gibson." He even goes out of his way to say that his words weren't taken out of context and that he meant them.

GIBSON: Whatever they were, I meant them.

Gibson with co-host Angry Rich also goes on to laugh about how often they made fun of Brokeback Mountain, especially the line "I wish I knew how to quit you."

GIBSON: How many months did we live off that line, Brokeback Mountain?

ANGRY RICH: Several.

GIBSON: I mean, it was going on for months and months and months.

GIBSON: I'm not giving that up.

You can hear the whole thing over at Think Progress.

In fact, the whole thing is a big joke to him and no doubt he hopes it's going to drive up his ratings. Part of me hesitates to give this creep anymore exposure, but I also think he needs a big, fat suspension if not being fired outright.

And of course there is a double standard at work. Imagine if Mel Gibson had plowed off a bridge while driving drunk and Keith Olbermann had mocked his death playing clips from Lethal Weapon and cracking jokes. Not only would be witnessing a media storm over the inappropriateness, but I wager the right would be screaming for Olbermann's head. But the guy who played a queer in the gay cowboy movie? Eh, not so much.

And if Fox won't fire him, then how about pressure on his sponsors. Via Perez Hilton comes this list of corporations that advertise on Fox. Why not give them a call and ask if they really selling their products on a program that mocks tragic deaths.

You can also call Gibson's radio show a call at 1-866-868-6861 and email Fox at comments@foxnews.com.
