Kevin discusses partner, reads letter from him on "Big Brother"
Earlier this season, the 11th season of CBS's stalwart reality show Big Brother made news for the homophobic behavior of some of it's houseguests. You know, like pretty much every other season of the show (and we previously covered CBS' hypocritical handling of these incidents). Fortunately, a couple of more positive things have happened since then, including out contestant Kevin Campbell apparently securing himself a spot in the top four. This surpasses the fifth place finish of Marcellas Reynolds in the show's third season and, frankly, comes as quite a surprise as Kevin hasn't exactly been a power player. But kudos to him for making it this far and as this week's Head of Household, Kevin was rewarded with a letter from his partner which he read to the other housemates on last night's episode. These later episodes have also featured Kevin openly firting with Jeffrey in an innocent and appropriate way. And Jeffrey, despite the homophobic insults he hurled at Russell earlier in the season, appears to be completely fine with the flirting apparently understanding Kevin (happily partnered for nine years) is simply paying him a compliment and his behavior is no different than how most of the straight guys on the show behave.
We've also seen Kevin discussing being gay and some of the issues involved with that. I certainly don't want to overstate the significance of what's been shown, but it's hard not to think that Jeffrey and Jordan (who has also used the word "gay" as a putdown) might think twice before using those words as well. And maybe even a viewer or two has learned something. Hey, I can dream, can't I? On the other hand, now that Kevin went and stabbed Jeffrey in the back, who knows what insults might come flying out of his mouth? Submitted by on Mon, 2009-08-31 15:11. |

All the way?
Kevin's bad taste
Kevin, Kevin, Kevin. Couldn't he have gone on one of those makeover shows first? Being a "blackanese" gay you'd think one of those 3 cultures would have given him a fashion sense.
But even more embarrassing is his bad taste in friends and his truly tasteless behavior. Yes he makes the requisite amount of clever gay quips (I think that's in the Big Brother contract for gay contestants), but he has aligned himself with the humorless, offensive Natalie, who never ever bathes. They amuse themselves by making up lies and laughing at the gullibility of their victims. They steal and destroy people's personal possessions, including clothing and food. And they find vicious ways of tormenting the brainy girl. Yes she's socially inept and lacks communication skills. But shame on you for being cruel to an outsider. Some of us know only too well how lonely and horrible that can be.
Shame on you Kevin. I wish I could make you forfeit your membership in the "club."
I'm sorry but I don't see
I'm sorry but I don't see where Kevin has done anything for the gay community on the show. Just a stereotypical flamer that society believes all gay people are like. I haven't liked him from day one. He hasn't tried to win, just ride on everyone else's coattails and deserves to be evicted. It will be a total shame if he or Natalie win.
Nor is it Kevin's
Nor is it Kevin's responsibility to "do anything for the gay community on the show." He's playing a game, trying to win $500,000. He's in a house being filmed 24/7, and he's keeping true to himself.
I will agree that he hasn't done much in the game, but he's stepped it up recently and is showing that he has determination.

He hasn't done anything to Michele, really
They went through a few of her items, but she has done the same to them. They talk about what they will do, but they never do it. It's just talk. They let off steam.
Kevin knows Natalie is a burden but he doesn't have any other allies in there. The other people in the house who are left were all big friends with Braden, who treated Kevin like crap.
Michele has played most of her game for men like Russell and Jeff who have been much more unpleasant to her than Kevin has.
If there is any slang term
Agreed
I hate that too! But, I really don't think Jordan knows any better. She's young (22?) and as we've seen not the brightest bulb in the bunch...kind of still has the teenager mentality...

Kevin Flirting with Jeff
I loved the scene where Jeff was out "tending the garden" and they showed Jordan eyeing him up and down. Then, they cut to Kevin doing the same thing. Adding in scenes of Kevin talking about hiring Jeff as a gardner. I liked how CBS showed both sides of that, and didn't do it as a joke.
As far as who he's aligned himself with...I agree with what some others have said above. He's chosen some bad company to keep. I don't like the fact that he's with Natalie, and hoping at some point he'll cut her loose, so she doesn't have a chance of winning!
