Luke and his dad on ATWT chat about boyfriends and "hooking" up

We're still a little more than a month away from the debut of Noah (Jake Silbermann) as Luke's (Van Hansis) love interest on As The World Turns, but that doesn't mean the show has ignored the topic entirely. I just found these YouTube clips from the soap where Luke chats about his desire to have a boyfriend, why it hasn't happened yet, and trying to fit in. In this first clip, he chats about spring break with Holden (Jon Hensley), the coolest and hottest stepfather around. One of the interesting things ATWT did with Luke's storyline is have his father be the more understanding, sympathetic parent about his son being gay. (Here is a pic of Jake and Van at a GLAAD event.)

In this clip, Holden reaches out the best he can to help Luke deal with his desire to have a relationship. It's actually pretty sweet and we learn that Luke isn't the only gay boy at school!

And this clip is of Luke to talking with his cousin Jade about the same subject.

Luke & Holden

I won't comment on Jade because as far as I'm concerned, she's dead to me after all the shenanigans she pulled when she first arrived -- even if she's trying to be nicer now.

Anyway, I love how awkward the conversation between Luke & Holden was.  It almost feels real since he's trying to understand his son but stepping on landmines and bumping into Luke's defenses.  John Hensley  rocks as he navigates through this a sticky conversation with Luke.

Strong dialogue

ATWT has done a remarkable job of simple scenes between Luke and Holden and between Luke and Lucinda. These scenes remind the audience that Luke is wrestling with some big challenges and that he does have people in his life who live him and want to be part of his life. I wish they did these type of scenes more often and with a variety of characters. (A Luke and Will conversation about love would be extremely strong.)

Jon

I don't trust CBS, or any daytime soap. They have tried to turn Bianca bi/straight on All My Children. CBS is even more conservative in their soaps. Most likely, this new guy will get involved with Henry's sister, or turn out to be some con who just uses Luke. Luke will stay asexual until he is written out.

Bianca

They didn't try to turn her bi/straight on AMC. She fell in love with a transgender woman. Just because Zoe wasn't born a woman doesn't make her not a woman, and therefore doesn't make Bianca any less of a lesbian.

I love Luke :)

I love Luke. Though he's underused, when he IS used, it works so well. The writing, the acting -- it's like I'm watching a totally different show than the rest of the crap ATWT has on.

Here's another clip with Luke discussing his lack o' lovelife -- this time with his grandmother, Lucinda (my favorite pre-Luke character): http://youtube.com/watch?v=wuv5pjJXg9E

Totally agree with the above post that a Luke/Will scene is past due. Perhaps now that Casey is headed off to jail, Luke and Will will be able to pal around again. (Just, please, Will, don't let your ridiculous storylines rub off on Luke!)
