Matthew Mitcham Golden Again at World Championships

Fantastic diving news out of China as out Olympic champion Matthew Mitcham claimed the gold yet again in the 10 m platform. Matthew's victory at the diving FINA World Cup in Changzhou, China marked his first international victory since winning the gold medal at the Beijing Games in 2008.

If you were a little concerned that Matthew might have been a bit of a one-hit wonder, it turns out you weren't the only one. After winning, Matthew said, "I was feeling like that ... that maybe I was just a one-hit wonder."

Matthew's win at the World Cup, where he scored a personal high 562.80 points, bore more than a little resemblance to his Olympic win. As at the Beijing Olympics, the Chinese were dominating the events having won each of the other men's golds. Matthew was also trailing after the first two rounds in the men's 10 m platform, but then scored perfect 10s after executing a new dive — an armstand-back double with a two-and-a-half twist that earned perfect 10s from the judges — to claim the gold.

Matthew later posted his thoughts about winning, saying:

Oops! I accidentally won Mens 10m Final! Straight 10s on reverse three and a half. And a new PB! I honestly didn't think I had a chance for anything better than bronze. I love pleasant surprises. I don't expect them, and they make me feel good.

I especially love that the Chinese people are very happy for me to win. That's why I love China.

And comments like this are why we love Matthew.
