Meet Brad Goreski, the gay assistant on "The Rachel Zoe Project"

Nate Berkus, Andy Cohen, and Brad Goreski

Tomorrow at night 11 PM Bravo launches yet another reality show with yet another gay boy. The show is The Rachel Zoe Project starring stylist to the superstars blah blah blahher, assistant Taylor and Zoe's new assistant, Brad Goreski, pictured above on the right.

The pic above is from Bravo's recent launch party for TRZP and we got our hands on it exclusively. Okay, Bravo sent it to me to bribe me into watching the first episode. What can I say, I'm a sucker for Nate Berkus. And Bravo executive Andy Cohen is pretty adorable too.

So I watched the first episode and I have to say it really made me miss Queer Eye for the Straight Guy. Does everyone on a reality show have to be nuts, mean, or completely fake? These days, I guess they do.

Zoe herself isn't the most appealing person in the world (just her voice gets on my nerves) as one of the Project Runway contestants mentioned several weeks ago when she was the guest judge on an episode. So frankly it's kinda hard to get invested in whether or not she successfully launches her own line of clothing.

Even worse is Zoe's assistant Taylor Jacobson who clearly is not happy to have Brad on her turf. Or at least that's the setup we're supposed to think is going on because a show like this has to have drama of course. Accordingly Taylor immediately takes a dislike to Brad, doesn't tell him what his job responsibilities are and then gets mad at him for not reading her mind and doing what she wants. Either this conflict is a little, well, staged or Zoe needs to ditch Taylor, who doesn't have a clue how to work with others.

Future episodes apparently feature Rachel doing a photo shoot instead of attending her uncle's funeral, Brad breaking down in tears because some gowns get wet and Taylor issuing an "it's either Brad or me" ultimatum.

While Flipping Out is similar in tone in that Jeff Lewis is difficult to work with and off-putting, at least his obsessive-compulsive disorder provides a fig leaf of an excuse for him to behave like a jerk. But Brad is appealing enough and cute and if you enjoy this kind of reality show, The Rachel Zoe Project might be worth your time.

As for me, I'lll probably just watch old episodes of Queer Eye where the people are nice and actually kind of improve the world.

The difference between this

The difference between this and "Flipping Out" is that Jeff Lewis was surrounded by people you cared about -- Jenni, Zoila, and the wonderful Ryan, who was an oasis of sanity (not to mention having a hunky partner and a beautiful daughter). These people are just crass and detestable, like the ones on "Million Dollar Listing." I think I'll take a pass.

I'd say, too...

...that there is something likable about Jeff Lewis and the part that made me care about Flipping Out was that we could tell Jenni, Zoila and Ryan liked Jeff, despite understanding his flaws. On too many reality shows, the supporting cast feels like they're there just for the cameras or because they're something wrong with them and they can't get away from someone awful, but we can see healthy relationships there.

One episode is enough

Although I wasn't annoyed by Zoe as much as everyone else, I was sickened and appalled by that shrieking shrew Taylor Jacobson. How does someone that vile and obstinate not get fired on the spot? At one point Rachel tells a weeping Brad that it took her a "year" to get along with her. Honestly is this bitch even worth it? If this is staged, it's even worse. Who WANTS to be portrayed like that? No interest. No time. Passing this project right by.
