This week Comedy Central announced that out actor Matt Lucas of Little Britain fame is joining the cast of the the network's new action-comedy series Krod Mandoon and the Flaming Sword of Fire. Now there's a title that just trips off the tongue!

Matt will play the evil Chancellor Dongalor and here's hoping he doesn't play it as the evil queeny type of character we see so often in fantasy and science fiction. Anyone who has seen Matt knows he can play a multitude of different types so there is no reason for this to be another lisping, mincing villain.

Ra, Emperor Ming, Wormtongue

But even better, the show show will have an actual gay character! His name is Bruce and he's going to played by Marques Ray. This will be Mascarinas' biggest role to date having thus far only appeared in five episodes of something called Nick Cannon Presents: Shirt Circuitz, an episode of The Young and the Restless, and a few other shows. I'm told his role is fairly significant as he is a member of Krod's team of Freedom Fighters. My sole reason of concern is that an article in The Guardian describes Bruce as "simply fabulous" which makes me envision Bruce braiding the other Freedom Fighters' hair and color coordinating everyone's outfits before battle. Hopefull, that won't be the case.

Speaking of Krod, the show's hero, he's played by Sean Maguire better known around here as Kyle Lendo from the canceled sitcom The Class. As you can seen from the above picture from Meet the Spartans, Sean already has the bod for an action hero.

Overall, I'm cautiously optimistic about this show which Comedy Central will launch in the spring of 2009.
