NPR's Ira Glass opts out of homophobic venue

I confess to being a total National Public Radio (NPR) junkie, or at least I used to before I took over this site and lost all my free time! But I still try to keep with with NPR and one of my favorite personalities there is Ira Glass, host of "This American Life". If you're not familiar with NPR or Glass, both tend to be very gay-friendly and Glass proved that once again today when he told representatives of Oregon Public Broadcasting to move the location for his October 7th appearance in Oregon.

Why the location switch? Because Glass had been scheduled to speak at the New Hope Community Church in Clackamas, a church that has been very outspoken in battling gay rights in Oregon. The Oregonian reports that when Glass learned where he was to speak, he instructed his lecture agent, Steven Barclay, to move it somewhere else pronto. Barclay explained that Glass had been unaware of the situation until he learned about it from a Portland Mercury reporter.

Three cheers to Glass for so quickly doing the right thing. New Hope Community Church has every right to advocate for their political point of view. And Glass has every right to say he wants nothing to do with bigots.
