AfterElton.com Readers Name Best and Worst Movies of the Decade!

To mark the end of the Aughts, we gave readers the chance to name who or what they felt who had the biggest impact over the past ten years in a variety of pop culture areas. Today we announce the winners and one loser in the movie category!

Best Big Budget Gay Movie: Brokeback Mountain

It certainly can't be much of a surprise that Brokeback Mountain is the runaway winner here. After all, so far it's been voted number one by a large margin in both of our Greatest Gay Movie polls. What is impressive, or maybe a little sad since it indicates there isn't that much competition, is that Brokeback Mountain and second place finisher Milk's total when combined was 86% of the vote, with Y Tu Mama Tambien, the next closest movie, scoring just 3%.

Best Indie Gay Movie: Shelter

Not only did Shelter take the Best Indie Gay Movie title by landslide, but the 2007 gay surfer movie also received the most number of write-in votes for Best Big Budget Gay Movie. You guys liked it! You really, really liked it!

Worst Gay or Homophobic Movie: Bruno

Just two movies — Bruno and I Now Pronounce You Chuck and Larry — scarfed up more than 50% of the votes here. What's even more interesting is that both movies were supposed to be gay-friendly. After all, Bruno was about a gay man and Chuck and Larry was about two straight men realizing how gay men are discriminated against. Well, it was supposed to partly be about that in theory anyway.

Clearly, gay viewers weren't laughing along with either one.

Check back tomorrow and Thursday for Best Gay Couple, Best Gay Show.
