Rex Lee of Entourage talks about Lloyd's unusual "bromance"

***SPOILERS***

Those watching Sunday night's episode of HBO's Entourage "Dog Day Afternoon" saw that Lloyd (Rex Lee) was truly willing to put the "personal" in personal assistant for his boss Ari (Jeremy Piven). Reeling from the loss of super client Vincent Chase (Adrien Grenier), Ari is desperate to sign a high-flying television writer played by Will Sasso (channeling a parody version of Desperate Housewives' creator Marc Cherry).

Ari is so desperate to land the client that he persuades Lloyd to show Sasso a very good time. And by good, I mean Heidi Fleiss good. But Ari isn't the utterly soulless, heartless bastard we've been led to believe and before Lloyd can "consummate" the deal, Ari comes to his rescue in a West Hollywood gay bar. Indeed, the episode made it very clear that while there isn't something romantic going on between Lloyd and Ari, there is something more than just an employer/employee relationship.

AfterElton.com recently had the chance to talk with Lee about the unusual relationship between "gaysian" Lloyd and the uber-straight Ari.

AfterElton: In "Dog Day Afternoon", Ari basically pimps Lloyd out to land a client played by Will Sasso. What was your reaction when you read that script? Would Lloyd actually have gone through with it?

Rex Lee: I read the script and I loved it. As an actor, I was excited that a script had been written that asked me to do such fun things. Beyond that, i just thought the script was incredibly funny. I think that Lloyd has intentionally allowed himself to become inebriated because he fully INTENDS to follow through with his "task". Thank goodness Ari comes to save him.

AE: Interesting title for that particular episode, no?

RL: Interesting title, yes. Of course, you could relate it to the Drama/Turtle storyline relating to the dogs. The film Dog Day Afternoon obviously has a gay couple that is integral to the plot and one member of the couple is really behaving in an extreme way completely out of love for the other. It is not really the most exact parallel. Al Pacino and Chris Sarandon are brilliant.

AE: On a scale of one to ten, how likely is something like that to actually happen in Hollywood?

RL: Two

AE: At the end of the episode, Ari rushes in to save Lloyd's virtue thereby demonstrating how much he really cares about him. Obviously Ari is straight, but is it fair to say he cares deeply about Lloyd? How do you think he views their relationship?

RL: I am not sure if Ari would admit it but, yes, of course, Ari cares deeply about Lloyd. I suspect that Ari only lets himself be aware of the ways in which he has become slightly dependent on Lloyd. Truth be told, I, as Lloyd, am incredibly good at my job And the boss appreciates it.

AE: Lloyd obviously cares about him, too. How would you describe their relationship?

RL: Ignoring the question of why Lloyd sticks around--because Lloyd has had a long relationship with Ari he has come to know a secret--Ari is a decent man with a big heart. I, as Lloyd, feel great affection and loyalty to Ari.

AE: Now that Lloyd's been pimped out is there any chance of his finding true love on the show?

RL: Lloyd was pimped out but it was never consummated and this was the first time we've seen. Of course, I have to believe there is always the possibility of finding true love.

AE: What actors would you like to have for Lloyd's romantic interest?

RL: Tall blondes

AE: One of the things I most like about your character is that he's been allowed to grow and have dreams of his own. Can you tell us anything more about what happens to him the rest of the season?

RL: I never signed a confidentiality agreement or anything, but I am usually reluctant to reveal too much. Plus, it is way more fun for me if no one knows what is going to happen. Luckily the episodes that are airing right now (Season 3, Part 2) were all shot last year and I have very little recollection of what is coming up.

AE: What can you tell us about your character in Shades of Ray?

RL: I play "the main co-worker of the main love interest of the main sidekick to the main male protagonist".

AE: Thanks, Rex!

Here is a little bonus for everyone, a Brokeback Entourage clip featuring Ari and Lloyd.
