Season Two Torchwood Gay Spoiler!

The first season of Torchwood doesn't even air for almost two weeks in the U.S., but already leaks about Season Two — currently filming in the U.K. — are popping up. And one of them is great news for those hoping for a gay relationship on the show.

***SPOILER***

SyFyPortal.com is reporting that in Season Two, Captain Jack (John Barrowman) is going to become involved romantically with Ianto Jones (Gareth David-Lloyd), something hinted at in Season One. During the recent Collerctormania convention in Scotland, David-Lloyd told SyFyPortal's Alan Stanley Blair that "I've got to be careful because they haven't given me a list of things I'm allowed to say yet so I've got to be careful otherwise they will get me into trouble. The only thing I will say is that the Jack and Ianto thing develops, and from what it is it's pretty fun so there's that."

And all I can say is woo hoo! The first season of Torchwood was already groundbreaking in simply having an out actor play the bisexual lead in a television series, much less a science fiction action series. On top of that, the possibility of Jack and Ianto having a relationship was hinted at, not to mention the fact the first season featured several male same-sex kisses, and one especially touching scene between two male characters.

The fact that the second season of the show will have Jack and Ianto pursue a relationship only cements the status of Torchwood as a revolutionary program that is boldly going where no other science fiction show has dared to go!

Well as far as I am

Well as far as I am concerned, what I had gleaned from the first series was that Jack and Ianto had *already* become involved romantically. It's only a natural progression for their relationship to 'develop' in series 2.

But yeah I can understand your excitement Michael. I am too...I'm just more excited about how they are actually going to show it on screen, as opposed to the fact that it is a gay relationship specificially. For I think that novelty has already worn off for us Brits ;).

There were hints but nothing conclusive

When you look at it, there was little evidence to prove that they were involved aside from the weird stopwatch reference in one episode and the kiss at the end, which may or may not have surprised Ianto.  Sure, that could be explained by Ianto being repressed and professional (keeps up appearances) so that he didn't want to cross the line at work. For me, they both were attracted to each other but they probably only got together (if they ever did) near the end of the series...after the whole thing with Lisa abated. I can believe that they got together but I don't think they got involved.

I think there was more evidence that they intended to pair Jack with Gwen, except that Burn Gorman & Eva Myles had more chemistry so GOwen happened -- which I hated because I loved Rhys...but that's a whole different story altogether.  Anyway, I think that Dr. Who already have a male/female dynamic (9/Rose/10, 10/Martha) that it would be redundant to have another one on the forefront in Torchwood, so it's a great move (storyline as well as fandom-wise) to have Jack/Ianto become a full-bloom romance.  And yes, I am so squeeing since I am totally a J/I shipper.

    aaah! I'd heard different,

aaah! I'd heard different, but I'm glad this is going to happen. I think they look great together :)

(Now they just need to work on the scripts :-P)

    From where I'm standing the

From where I'm standing the hints were pretty conclusive. Even Owen made a reference to Ianto being Jack's bitch. Not to mention Ianto getting all angsty about Jack when he gets shot and doesn't come back to life...Ianto is seen crying into Jack's military coat. It was all there, just it was never in the forefront of the episodes. I think this 'spoiler' is telling us that it will be in the forefront during series 2. That's the only difference really.

    I understand where you're

I understand where you're coming from but as much as I like your version, there's another interpretation:

    1) Jack's bitch -- well, he does all the menial tasks for the team, especially Jack.  Especially since Ianto still serves Jack even after what happened to Lisa.

    2) Everyone was angsty over Jack's death, even Owen.

    3) While Ianto cries over the coat, Gwen stays with the body.  I could interpret that to mean that Gwen & Jack had a relationship.  Also, Ianto crying over the coat could very well mean that he regretted not being with Jack, not nevause they had a relationship before.

Anyway, whether or not they had a relationship in Season 1, I'm just glad that they're going to make the relationship more explicit rather than innuendo -- which was fueled before by Ianto's blog entry during Torchwood's UK run that hinted at kinkysex involving a stopwatch.

    That would be a leap

    1) Owen specifically taunted Ianto after Jack went back to the 40's, and Ianto had a very emotional reaction that seemed to go beyond employer/employee.

    3) Gwen was seen in relationships with her boyfriend and with Owen. The show never really implied she was also with Jack. The show did imply that heavily with Ianto/Jack through that stopwatch scene, and through the kiss after Jack returns.

    Review and Article

As a side note - next week's issue of TV Guide [U.S.] has a nice review of the show (due to the first season/series starting on BBCA soon) and also a separate one page article on Mr. Barrowman. I haven't checked, but I'm assuming it'll be on tvguide.com, as well.

our brand new interview with John and an article on the show. So fuggeheddabout TV GUIDE!

Iack?...no, Ianck?...no. Suddenly I have a new respect for tabloid writers.

Anyway, some Jack/Ianto (Janto?...no) have the hots clues are more subtle than others. Torch-Wood indeed (at 0:56) ;)

    Actually...

It IS Janto, actually. At least, that's what most of the fandom calls them ;-)

    It seemed pretty obvious to

It seemed pretty obvious to me they were f**k buddies, but not in love. Or maybe they had some feelings for each other, but it was more about standing together against the all-encompassing darkness that fills their lives (cue violin). Having them really falling for each other could make for an interesting development, since they'll probably want to protect each other even more.
And they're both cute guys, so that can't hurt the ratings...

    Well it's obvious they're

Well it's obvious they're not deeply in love...yet. But even though there was no conclusive evidence for that, in my opinion there was evidence to show that they were involved, at least.

<<< SyFyPortal.com is reporting that in Season Two, Captain Jack (John Barrowman) is going to become involved romantically with Ianto Jones >>>

What I am trying to say is that there is no 'going to become involved', because they already are involved. What David-Loyd is saying is that this involvement is going to 'develop' throughout series 2. Very nit-picky I know, but I am a pedantic and proud of it. ;)

Let's just hope they don't kill off Ianto at the end of Season 2.
