ABC Prez Steve McPherson on Adam Lambert: "We'd do nothing differently."

After the ABC executive session at today's Television Critics Association Winter Tour in Los Angeles, I had the chance to ask ABC Entertainment President Steve McPherson a quick question about how the network handled the aftermath of Adam Lambert's performance on the American Music Awards. Asked if in hindsight, ABC would handle anything differently, McPherson said:

We wouldn't do anything differently. I think it was really unfortunate and he knows it was unfortunate choices he made. It's such a shame because it was such a great show otherwise and that eclipsed some of the great performances. The show performed really well. It was a great creative show.

Another journalist asked whether Adam has apologized to him or the network:

Not to me personally. I don't know [about the network].

I tried earlier to arrange a separate interview to discuss the matter with McPherson, but was told he was too busy.
