Sunday night's "Desperate Housewives" featured a surprise gay reveal!

Ok, not going to lie.  I totally just did the happy gay clap when I saw Andrew reply on the phone.  Call me a sucker for redemption.  But after all that crap he went through a couple seasons ago, its nice to see him move up in the world!

I'd wager that a good number of gay men would love to settle down with a doctor/plastic surgeon who's hot enough to have done gay porn. I'm just glad to see Andrew is finally getting some again, even if it is mostly off-camera.

Anyway, no raised hand here - I'm actually looking forward to seeing how Bree deals with the information. We already know she's not above using gay porn to her advantage - Bree did show Andrew's grandparents some of his magazines so that they'd change their minds about Andrew living with them. It'll be interesting to see how she deals with it now that she has a public image to protect.

Yes it';s nice to see him gettin' some action. And of course there'll be trouble. This is Deseprate Housewives.  

 

Michael, I'm not sure what you meant when you said "Okay, everyone not wild about that storyline raise your hand? Yeah, me too. With any luck, they won't be going there."

Why isn't that a valid storypoint? 

My only hesitation with them addressing this kind of thing is that Marc Cherry most likely will present it in the most condescending, self-hating way.  Like gay porn will lead you to a life of prostitution and drugs or something, lol...

But I took that line from Bob as a joke. As in, he's pulling Bree's leg. Time will tell...

Tell me if I'm stepping out of line but I really don't see why watching porn in and of itself makes Boy and Lee "pervy" ( I mean everybody watches porn, even the "FRIENDS" had an entire episode devoted to the group of them watching non-stop porn)

I also don't see why you can't have performed in a legal porn film and still be a "good guy" and fabulous boyfriend for Andrew.

Isn't the fact that he's a successful doctor proof of just the opposite? I just think in this day and age, we as gays, have to be a bit more progressive in our judgements of fellow gays and lesbians.

I would not be exaggerating to say that a good sizable portion of my friends and "family" as it were have done completely legal, consentual porn or some other kind of legal sex work at some point in the 80s and 90s to put themselves through school or just to support themselves as artists, etc and they would all be considered "successful" in their current professions.

Obviously, the story could be mishandled but on the face of it, I don't see the big deal.

Folks on Wisteria Lane have done awful, violent things towards each other. Porn kinda seems like a non-issue exept in that it will challenge Brie's bizare antiquated sense of right, wrong and propriety (which could be fun) and pit her desire to be above reproach (which is a joke at this point) against her desire to show Andrew how much she loves and approves of him.

The doctor looks over thirty, so did he do porn to put himself through medical school? lol It sounds like a throwaway line to get Bree all worked up for nothing. More importantly, I would like to know why Andrew, who still looks like he's eighteen playing dress up, would hook up with an older guy. Is it like mother like son? Rex was a doctor, right? And how did a loony mom like Bree end up with a daughter married to a lawyer and a son dating a doctor?

We only caught a long glimpse of who Andrew was kissing in the coming attractions.  What if we're missing something?  Like, what if Brie finds out Andrew is dating and insists his boyfriend comes to dinner.  But the good doctor doesn't want Brie to find out her son is dating the guy who's going to operate on Orson; so Andrew hires a porn star to pretend to be his boyfriend, not counting on the porn actor being recognized by Bob and Lee.  I mean, that sounds a lot like something Andrew would do, and a lot like something Marc Cherry would throw in. 

Or I could be completely wrong.

I guess we'll all have to watch next week and see.

I really liked Todd Grinnell on the short-lived FOUR KINGS on NBC with Seth Green.  He played Jason, the probably gay but closeted BFF/roommate.  I coincidentally watched all 13 episodes a couple weeks ago, and it was obvious as the show went on that they were getting ready to out him officially but never got the chance.

The best episode was when Jason's boss (along with one of the regulars) saw Jason's giant penis at the gym locker room and then got all threatened by it.  This was one of several episodes where the producers (Mohan/Mutchnick of WILL & GRACE) found reasons for Grinnell to be naked, which I highly recommend on principle.

I'm glad to see him on DH, especially as Andrew's hubbie.  As for the age difference, Pyfrom is 22 and Grinnell is 32 in real life, but Andrew's character should be 24-25 now.  So it's not that big a difference, and Andrew's certainly written and acted as more mature this season.  Besides it's refreshing that a 22-year-old is playing a character older than himself, when so many 20-somethings are playing 16-year-olds on other shows.

While I might get worked up about a gay porn storyline on BROTHERS & SISTERS or UGLY BETTY, I certainly don't find it out of place on Wysteria Lane.  Mike's a murdering ex-con, Orson's an accessory to murder and an ex-con for attempted murder, Tom was a philanderer, Carlos was essentially a gangster, and Andrew was a lying, cheating homeless prostitute.  And those are the *good* guys!  Compared to all that, being a former gay porn star is positively trivial.

This is Desperate Housewives we are talking about,  many characters here gay or straight are beyond redemption. Why should the new character be treated differently? I doubt that many of those who voted for Prop 8 watches this show. if they do and really think that these are real life gay behavior, no amount of education can bring them back to the reality. Andrew himself "stellar" past is not in the position to judge the surgeon boyfriend. Among the younger generation, gay or straight at some point either posted naked picture on the web or done worst. Again this is Wisteria lane, there's not many eye opening plot that the story line has not explore outside of making a porn version. There will always be Sarah Palin/Dan Quayle  mentality bunch out there, short of aversion therapy or institutionalize these people, I'm not about to worry what kind of message this sitcom is going to convey to our "children".

Didn't the blonde chick from Grey's anatomy also pose for racy photos to pay her way through medical school (I remember her telling her friends to go f*ck themselves with their student loans).  So what does it really matter if the hot doctor did porn...he's a doctor now!  hes a total sugar daddy for andrew!  amazing!

 BREE don't screw this up for andrew!!!
