To Make a Long Story Short ... Top Chef, Dr, Boogie, and gay youth

  • Yesterday we mentioned that Top Chef returns June 6th and that Queer Eye alumnus Ted Allen was joining as one of the judges. Bravo just posted the contestant bios and we've got at least one gay player. His name is Dale, he's 34, comes from Chicago, and loves the fact that the other contestants could be "outcooked by a queer." Um, okay. Read Dale's whole bio and Q&A here. BTW, the June 6th ep is actually an All Star version from the first two seasons. Not to be repetitive, but, um, okay. Don't All Star shows usually occur after the show has been on four or five seasons? What's next? Stopping a reality show half-way through the season to do an All Star episode. Sheesh!
  • A thoughtful response to the online hissyfit over Shear Genius' Dr. Boogie and his proclamation of heterosexuality
  • Former MTV producer Terrence Dean to publish tell-most book about closeted gay men in hip-hop. Um, let me just take a wild guess and say that's not going to go over too well.
  • Myspace's featured book for the week leading up to Mother's Day is Conversations and Cosmopolitans: How to Give Your Mother a Hangover. It's about a gay man coming out to his mother. Tip: if you get this for mom, you might want to order extra flowers. For when she has a heart attack.
  • And here is a new interview with John Barrowman of Torchwood
  • Finally, it sure seems like almost every other Western country is light year's ahead of the US when it comes to GLBT youth. Even Israel which has a strong fundamentalist element can manage ads like the one you'll find after the jump. Sigh
