Welcome to Torchwood Talk with Michael and Meredith!

As part of our ongoing effort to cover BBC America's sci fi series Torchwood, today we not only launched recaps by bad machine, but we're also bringing you SyFyPortal.com's editor Michael Hinman and his cohort Meredith Hogan to shoot the breeze about each week's episode of Torchwood. Michael and Meredith will be discussing the good, the bad, and the ugly (see above for an example of that!). And we hope you'll join in the discussion to talk about what you loved (or hated) in each episode.

Who should Captain Jack (John Barrowman) hook up with? Ianto or someone else? Which alien best do you like best? And how much does it rock to finally have a sci fi show with a queer character? (Forget Star Trek!)

We hope you'll enjoy! The clip itself is after the jump!

Great intro!

Great intro! That was funny and a neat way to introduce yourselves, BRAVO!

I really enjoyed the energy in the beginning, and the little spoilers that are mentioned. I think the spoilers weren't bad, and succeeded in sparking my interest for upcoming episodes.

I only have a basic understanding of the "Dr.Who world" so I appreciate the fact that you have someone who is a "virgin" (Meredith) as well as a seasoned "pro" (Michael). In all, I enjoyed the whole vlog post, and will look forward to watching the next one after seeing the next episode! :)

If I may, I have a couple suggestions of things I'd like to see and hear in future episodes:

1. More references to the actor's real lives (I liked the reference that John B. was married, and want to know more about the other actors if possible as a side note when talking about them).

2. Perhaps more info or facts from the Dr.Who shows that would help support or describe situations and characters in Torchwood. Are any of the aliens on these shows the same? Did any of the technology or gadgets originate from Dr.Who? (ex: the "invisible lift" was created when the Tartus landed on that spot and "leaked" some of it's dimensional energy... right?! I only know this from an After Elton viewer's post on the recap.)

3. Can you help explain that darn pterodactyl thing? ;)

Thanks, Dwiz. :)

I'm glad someone finally commented on this, and I'm glad you liked it.

And your suggestions are awesome. Any feedback we can get is very helpful.

Meredith and I live 100 miles apart, believe it or not, and I have a very busy schedule, so we kind of film these things in bunches (I'm not giving any production secrets away I hope), so I definitely will include some of these things, but it probably won't be until the fourth episode.

To be honest, Episodes 2 and 3 of the Vlog will be better, but I'm still not fully happy with them, so we'll continue to tweak, and probably get it right by the final episode, hahaha!

That was actually our second full take, and in our first take, I did talk a little more about Doctor Who, but was worried that might bore people more than anything else. In fact, in this week's episode, there is a tremendous reference to "Doctor Who," and I don't think we talked about it, but we can always talk about it here in the comments after the fact.

But you're right, the Tardis landed there in the first season, and because of its proximity with the rift that's there (which has been a part of the Whoniverse since like the third episode of the new series), the Tardis has a perception filter that no one notices, and it imprinted itself on the stone which becomes the lift.

So far, the only aliens we've seen are the Weevils, and they are not in the new Doctor Who. Neither is any of the technology so far. However, the hand in the water? It has tremendous significance to Doctor Who. Tremendous. :)

There is one "alien" coming up that is directly related to the Battle of Canary Wharf. By the way, when Capt. Jack and Gwen are sitting in the bar, he asks her about the Christmas Day attack, and a Cyberman in every home. Those are direct references to the Christmas 2006 special as well as the second season finale of "Doctor Who." Also, Capt. Jack's condition of being like Highlander is directly related to the first season finale of "Doctor Who."

If you like Torchwood, you would love Doctor Who. Not as adult, but the stories are moving AND funny.

I don't remember if the pterodactyl is ever explained. But I am in the process of re-watching all the episodes.

And sorry I was so fat in this video. Sheesh ... I lose 25 pounds, and I still give Hurley on Lost a run for his money.
