Confirmed! ABC Moving "Ugly Betty" to Wednesday Nights

Just when I thought network programming was so bad that it had to be done by a bunch of drunk monkeys (see: NBCSucks), ABC goes and proves me wrong by moving Ugly Betty to Wednesday nights, rectifying their bone-headed mistake of moving the show to Fridays. Kristin at E! reported it as as a rumor this morning, but a source very close to the show has confirmed to AfterElton.com the move is definite although the time hasn't been decided for sure.

The idea behind the move is to pair Betty with ABC's freshman hits Modern Family and Cougartown and actually makes a lot of sense. In fact, it actually gives ABC quite a two-hour block of comedy to promote the heck out of and, with any luck, will return Betty to its status as a top twenty show.

As I've said ever since Betty came back, I think this season has been absolutely terrific and wasn't pulling the numbers it deserved. Creatively the show is at its peak both in writing and the performances from the cast. And for gay viewers, the show has hinted that it was finally going to go somewhere interesting with Justin

But do us all a favor and help prove network television need not be a wasteland of Jay Leno and Bachelor-type shows by watching UB again now. You won't be sorry.

Nasty note outside the door

Micheal, I think you should know, the Flying Monkeys left a nasty note written on a banana peel outside the newsroom door because you hinted they might have something to do with NBCSucks. I'd either apologize and send a basket of bananas, or sleep with one eye open and wear a poncho if you walk by their cage for fear of things being flung.

That said - I love this idea, and it can't mess up my DVR at 9pm since it I'm already recording that.

can someone explain....

can someone explain why jay leno's show was moved to a new time? i'm sure it's been explained, but google is failing me right now.

Totally makes sense

The pairing of Betty with Modern Family and Cougartown (which sadly I find as indulgent fun) is best for all. I thought that ABC would have done this originally, but the Wednesday move now is fine with me.

No more watching online now for me!

Hooray!

Ugly Betty is truly at a peak this year. The acting and stories are top notch and the heart is back for Betty! All the new actors too so far have added to the show rather than detracted. With Eastwick cancelled now, Rebecca Romajn can return and add more devillish family fun to the Meads soup. Does anyone else think that Claire is looking stunning this year too?

Claire/Judith Light!

I agree, she looks absolutely beautiful. In fact I was thinking last week when she was making out with Heartley that she could so do better! She is a hot mama!

It's about time!

Geez what were they thinking in the first place putting it on Fridays alongside that nanny show.  Ugly Betty has been pretty solid this season and it deserved a better time slot. I am so glad it's getting the respect it deserves and I hope this will drive up the ratings.

Wednesdays

Glad to hear that Ugly Betty is moving to a  different time, but I'm really hoping it's not placed opposite Glee

Ugly Betty Move

When does this change occur?  I want to double-check that I don't have too many shows on the DVR at once.

Not so fast...

It seems weird to give UB the Eastwick spot at 10 (unless they spice up the show a lot). Ugly Betty is a sort of 8 or 9 pm fluffy show. Hopefully they don't rearrange things and put it on at 9 up against Glee.

I agree!

I agree "Not so fast."  Don't put "Betty" up against "Glee".  I love them both!  Good shows like these are a rarity as it is what with all the "reality" junk.

This is great news!

It also officially makes Wednesay the gayest night of TV ever.

I'm fairly certain..

UB will replace "Hank" & "The Middle" and air in the 8pm time slot. Of course,it could do well opposite "Glee". Fox placed "The Simpsons" opposite "The Cosby Show" on Thursday nights a few years ago and it did quite well. JMHO.

If you think that was "a few years ago," I'm afraid I have to tell you you've reached that age where time telescopes on you.  That was almost 20 years ago!

I can relate.  Recently I realized that in 4 years, it will be the 20th anniversary of the X-Files, and I wanted to put the FBI on the mystery of where the hell my life has gone.

Best News! .. And is Max Ehrich returning as Randy?

Now that would be sweet!  I'm only asking because I enjoyed Justin's scenes with Randy, our Broadway dancing, football jock.   I've read that the actor apparently put something on twitter saying he'd be back this season.   Don't know if that's true.   Has anyone at AE heard some actual confirmation?   I noticed he and Mark Indelicato were photographed together at two events last week.

This is great Ugly Betty season!   So glad someone at ABC has a brain.

Changes on Betty

I'm happy about the night change on "Betty"  but even happier that they're gonna do more with Justin's developing sexuality.  I have faith that the writers won't make him a stereotype of a finger snapping queen.  They have the chance to explore high school homophobia in a serious way.  I picture Justin starting a Gay/Lesbian/Straight Alliance at his new high school...after he gets bullied initially.  Just please don't portray him as a crying victim.  Please!

Gay characters on TV are no longer "comic relief" who are here just for people to laugh at us.  "Ugly Betty" is more than just a comedy for me....and Justin's character could be a major "breakout" for network television....more than it already is....and boy have we made some progress...don't you think?  For ex., the relationship between Kevin and Scotty on Brothers and Sisters.  I remember when Doug Savant (Matt Fielding on Melrose Place) left the show because the network refused to let the writers explore his Gay relationships.  Al Corley (Steven Carrington) left "Dynasty" for the same reason.

I was amazed to return to my Fraternity for a reunion to find they now have a nondiscrimination clause and have initiated openly Gay students!  The entire Greek system acutally has a "Gay outreach" program on the University of Cincinnati's campus.

Ugly Betty

Hopefully this will be a good move for the show and the network. The move will most likely supply the network with better ratings. Who knows what network executives think in this day and age. casino en ligne gratuit
