Countdown until the wingnuts try to score political points off of Heath Ledger's death

What do you want to bet it's only a matter of time before the likes of Peter Labarbera of Americans for Truth About Homosexuality or the Concerned Women for America try to claim that Heath Ledger's tragic death had something to do with his having played gay in Brokeback Mountain? After all, both of those groups couldn't rush out press releases fast enough criticizing the gay community and trying to incite anti-gay panic after the AP and pretty much every other media outlet got the story wrong about the MRSA/staph infection supposedly threatening to burst out of the gay community and into the general population.

So it's not that hard for me to see them trying to claim either that Ledger's having played gay was evidence of his immorality (hence his apparently drug-induced death) or that playing gay caused Ledger to come in close contact with the gay community thereby leading him to engage in risky behaviors. That might not be exactly how they spin it, but mark my words, they'll come up with some other hateful line of thinking. There is no tragedy awful enough that these anti-gay nuts won't try to score some points off of it.

I've already read one

I've already read one comment stating exactly that, in his imdb.com messageboard....sadly entirely predictable

I hope

you're wrong about this Michael, but at the same time I also find myself going through the list of usual suspects and thinking which will be the first to try and use this.

If you can stomache it

The Freepers are already getting disgusting on this topic:

I don't reccomend reading that drivel unless you're a masochist.

Sad

After reading the hate filled postings on the free republic site, I'm disgusted by those who posted such hate about Heath. These people are the sole reason why this country is going downhill. We really need a revolution.

I'm just really disappointed and sad right now.

Give it a rest

I checked the link and I saw some moderator activity and a number of folks castigating posters who had poor taste in light of a death. Many praised his film work in the Patriot.

You get inhuman responses to a notable death in any internet community that isn't trivial in size. The political stripe does not matter.

This post blog post is hate-filled and extremely divisive.  The only person trying to score points off Heath's death here is YOU, Michael Jensen.

I'm curious: are you new to the US, or were you born yesterday?

Perhaps you are unaware of the FURIOUS, infantile, and completely hate-filled reaction to BROKEBACK MOUNTAIN on the part of the right-wing. They had a five-month long tantrum, viciously insulting every aspect of the film and every person involved in it (and even a lot of people who WEREN'T involved, like most of "Hollywood").

BROKEBACK MOUNTAIN was a movie, but they made it political through their appalling anti-gay bigotry. It was not "trivial," and their reaction to his death won't be "trivial" either, mark my words.

Well, one can always count

Well, one can always count on the Phelps clan (a.k.a. the "God Hates Fags" folks) for some irrational homo-hating tastelessness. I think they win your race, Michael.

Where do you guys

get these groups?  At the risk of being offensive, are some Americans given "stupid" pills when they are young?  I forced myself to read some of the so-called Americans for "truth" about homosexuality website.  Same old tired brain-dead talk of "homosexuality" being unnatural, that it is a choice, blah, blah, blah.  Maybe these people should think before they open their mouths or put pen to paper (or fingers to keyboards).

Religion is found in one species and only one, humans.  Homosexuality is found in dozens of species, so guess which one is unnatural?  As for Homosexuality being a choice, how the f**k would these people know?   They do not have any personal experience about homosexuality nor are they willing to actually listen to people who are gay.  The only choices I had were getting married to a woman and living a lie, killing myself, staying single and alone the rest of my life, or try and live as a fully functioning, loving gay man.  I fortunately chose the last one and I will never regret it.

This kind of group is fortunately rare in Canada, mainly in Alberta.  Which gives me an idea.  How about Canada trade Alberta to the USA for lets say the New England states or Oregon & Washington?  It would be great.  Americans would get all that oil in Alberta which would keep your Hummers, well humming, for hundreds of years, and Canada would get some liberal states that have a lot in common with the Canadian political scene.  Also all the Christian right-wing "eccentrics" would be in one country where they could be contained and not spread their bizarre views elsewhere.

Think about it ;),

Cheers

I Think we have common

ground, perhaps we can throw in our current Prime Minister, for, hmmm, I take that back, the current Democratic frontrunners are too conservative for me!  Anybody that talks about increasing military spending in the USA turns me off.  I guess they think us Crazy Canucks are going to try and conquer Maine or North Dakota! :)

Cheers
